If it's full screen...then just hit the 'print screen' button, open 'paint' and paste the image to a new sheet.
That's the cheap way....
You can also take screenshots with PowerDVD -
If it's full screen (in whatever program you use to view your video) just hit the 'print screen' button (it's next to my F12 key)....Open painter, select 'edit' and then 'paste' then you're set!

In PowerDVD just puase at the point you want to capture, click PowerDVD's Capture button and it will save an image of the clip you paused at. Find and open it in an image editor and print.

Unless you are using Hardware Acceleration in PowerDVD. Then at least I won't get any captures using the PowerDVD Capture button.

If you want the best possible quality, you might consider ripping to your hard drive and using VirtualDub to save still images.
Your image is going to be 720x480 or 720x576 anyway. Taking a snapshot of an image that has been expanded to fill the screen will result in a lot of noise and atrifacts.Just what is this reality thing anyway? -
I have a SONY VAIO 2.4G RG22G computer that, for some reason, required a special version of PowerDVD, which, for some reason, doesn’t allow screen captures from PowerDVD.
When using “Paint” application, the images always seem to be of poor quality.
I too would be interested in a better way of obtaining QUALITY image captures
Let me know if you guys hear of a better way...
Thanks,

The easiest way is to use PowerDVD or WinDVD. Or you can rip your DVD to your hard drive and then use VirtualDub-MPEG2-AC3 to take screen shots. No matter what you do, you won't be able to produce high quality picture because the video resolution is low compared to the standard photographs. Txpharoah explained this in detail here.
This is the quality you should expect to get from a DVD. The quality will be even worse when there is rapid motion. -
After you get the screenshot either from (1) Powerdvd/Windvd with hardware acceleration turned off or (2) in VirtualDub frameserved from dvd2avi, remember to resize the image to the proper proportion (4:3).
The image resolution should be 640x480 (4:3 ratio) not 720x480.
Also, use Qimage for printing it out. Qimage offers superior interpolation (vector sharpening and Lanzcos) than even Photoshop (but Photoshop is still better for noise reduction and unsharp masking).
The printed result should look pretty nice (assuming you have a good color printer), definitely better than most images on the web, especially if you apply unsharp mask. -
i don't understand why it must be 'full screen' in order to take a snapshot??
also, if i could take this a step further... Once captured, then imported into an image editor (resize it to 640x480--however you do that??), how do you import into, let's say this post for everyone to view??
