VLC (or better?) for grabbing still shots

Hey, does anyone know where I can access the VLC Wiki since the site has pulled it? I'd appreciate having some documentation for the program so I didn't have to come a begging here. It's been awhile since I did a stills grab through VLC and when I fired it up just now I can't seem to figure it out.

I just want some nice wallpapers, preferably in the highest resolution possible? VLC? Something better?

    Thanks for any help!

According to their homepage, VLC has temporarily disabled the Wiki and the forums to allow more bandwidth for downloads for the new VLC version 1.1.0 No Idea how long that will last.

EDIT: MPC can also do stills grabs with ALT / I

Damn. Any 3rd Party sites where they're heavy into VLC? I badly need an instruction guide tsk. Tips anyone?

    RTFM(enu)?

Capture stills in VLC: Select VIDEO SNAPSHOT after freezing the video where you want it via space bar.

Cobra, thank you so much for the instruction. Now — where exactly is the manual? Believe me, I looked!!

    EDIT. Oh, Menu cuuuuute.

Okay, now that was actually the first one I attempted Ls. For one thing, I have precision control over advancing the video to the place(s) I want to capture (a crude exercise in VLC absent a manual, and no a menu is a poor substitute Cobra).

Ls, what was I doing wrong? I couldn't get VDub to recognize the DVD. Do I have to convert the whole movie to AVI just to get VDub to access it?

Lastly, which of the two (or some other better program, including $commercial ?) is capable of a high-resolution grab? I really do want something a little better than PRN SCR if possible. Thanks guys!

    With VLC
    Click on 'View'.
    Then tick 'Advanced Controls'.
    This reveals some extra buttons.
One of the extra buttons (second from left) shows a logo of a camera.
That's the button to use for snapshots.

I like VLC for still screen cap or screen region cap because it honors specified deinterlace modes. I haven't tried all of the others.
