    hi there,

does anyone here encountered muffled audio when using TMPGENC to convert DV video to MPEG2?

is there any thing i can do to just make the audio of DV to AC3 format?

    thanks.

  2. Is it DV from your own Cam? If so check the audio settings on the cam. DV cams record audio at 32Khz sample rate, or 48Khz sample rate. If it is set to 32Khz sample rate, then the muffled sound is caused by TmpGenc's resampling process, as DVD requires 48khz audio. You can use ssrc.exe as a plugin to Tmpgenc for sample rate conversion and it is much better.

If this is the case, why not set your cam audio to 48khz for the future.

    thanks!

i can't change the audio as it's recorded by other person and not me.

    i'll try out the plug-in.

    thanks.

  4. Don't use TMPGEnc to convert your audio -- it's lousy at it.

Your best bet is to decode your audio separately -- you can use AVI2WAV to grab that audio stream for encoding into AC3 with BeSweet. Use TMPGEnc only for video.

AVI2WAV won't work. it said it can't find the audio chunk.

so i think AVI2WAV can't read DV format?

  7. No, it can read both AVI formats -- AVI1 and AVI2 (the latter is the DV AVI format).

Or you might try virtualdub -- I've never used it, but others say it works.

  9. What do you mean by ssrc won't work?

anyway, other option is goldwave. It is a shareware audio editor that will open avi's and allow you to edit the audio including resampling. Get it from www.goldwave.com. It should handle DV.

i used ssrc and the sound is still muffled. this doesn't happen on all my miniDV to DVD-R conversion, only to some which has background music.
