Has anyone gotten this firmware update to work? After following all instructions, when I execute the 510A_10c.exe file, my system just reboots.

    Thanks for any info.

The f/w upgrade procedure for the DRU500A is that you execute the program, it tells you it must reboot your system before applying the f/w, you reboot, re-execute the program, downloads the f/w, and once done this, reboots your system.

Is it that you don't re-execute the program once more after the first reboot?
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  3. I should have explained more. I double click the exe. Then, I am supposed to see a dialog box, etc. I never get that far. My machine just reboots.

I have tried several different variations. I have changed the ide params in the bios to disable dma. I've tried the drive by itself as master. And as slave.

Guess I'll wait until more people give it a shot. :P

I just ran it. Thanks for informing me that it is available.

It ran though the update fine. I'm not sure why it gave you problems.

  5. Well, I figured out what the problem was. My PNY compact flash reader was wacking out the update program. The program must have been looking at all the "drives" and when it ran into the two drives added by the reader, it crapped out.

The 500 has its own firmware. Why would you want to use the wrong one?

Seems like a good way to ruin an expensive DVD drive.

Of course you can flash 500A and 500AX with the same firmware because the hardware is identical. The only difference between 500A and AX is the software bundle.

  10. How do you know that the only difference between 510 and 500 isn't just the firmware? ANY ONE got extand warranty on their 500 want to try it out???

I don't know, I just said that it seems dangerous. Give it a try and let me know how it turns out since it appears that you have a 500 and the interest.

It scans the bus to look for the correct drive so I don't think it will allow you to apply the firmware to a different model. But who knows.

    Good luck =)

  12. Hi all,

I have dru510 with firmware 1.0b, not sure if I should upgrade the firmware as the drive hasnt given me any problems. So does anyone have any positive or negative experience with the new firmware which will help make up my mind ?

    Cheers
