  1. I have had a DVD+R burn before and played on my DVD player. But I bought this new one, and I have burned two DVD+R's and no such luck on my DVD player. The first was burned using EZCreator 6, didn't even work ... second was burned using Nero and I got the menu and such ... and when I click play or chapter select, it will either lock up my DVD player or it will display boxy stuttery pictures. My computer will play both with no problem.

What am I doing wrong? I'm using ULEAD DVD Workshop.

    Thanks

Your post is confusing. Did you buy a new DVD Burner for your computer or a new DVD Set top player that connects to your TV. Based on what I've been able to decipher, the DVD plays okay on your computer but not on your DVD Player. Did you check tha compatiblity list to the left on this forum for your DVD Model. Does it state on the unit or manual that it will play your media? The first DVD that you had and played okay, did you use the same authoring program and same media type/manufactuer? Please fill in the blanks.

  3. EasyCD Creator doesn't close or finalize the burned DVDR (at least the latest version I had didn't) and thus most players will reject those burned discs. Some people here have had problems with Nero burned DVDR's so do a search for Nero burning problems to get some help on the optional settings of Nero. I use RecordNow Max to burn my DVDR's.

I assume you put all the DVD files into a "VIDEO_TS" folder then burned that folder.

  4. Ok sorry about that, let me clear up some things.

I bought a new Cendyne DVD+R burner and installed it as a cable select. Now I have had DVD+R's burned before on my fathers computer at work and it played fine on my TV-DVD player. But I burned the first DVD+R on this Cendyne burner using Roxio Easy CD and DVD creator 6 (it now does DVDs) and yes it had VIDEO_TS and such. It did not even load on my TV-DVD except for it play a mid section of my movie as a menu for 5 seconds and then looped and errored out. The second DVD+R I burned was same files, using Nero. ACTUALLY, I burned a DVD+RW before the DVD+R. I played that on my dads computer and mine and 100% great. So I took the chance of burning a seond DVD+R. Stuck it in my dad's and my computer, works 100% great. Stick it in my TV-DVD player and the menu comes up with the music, ok ... but when I click my buttons (ie chapter select or play movie) it locks up and gives me an error.

The way I have the DVD setup is as follows:

no first play --> Main Menu
    (1) Movie 1 -> Plays logo1 -> Plays movie 1
    (2) Chapter Select Movie 1 -> 4 menus of thumnails
    (3) Movie 2 -> plays logo2 -> plays movie 2
    (4) Chater Select Movie 2

Total of 6 titles and 9 menus

Not that the above is important because it should work anyways.

DVD burning ... am I doing something wrong? What should I do to double check all of my steps to producing a DVD that will play on a DVD player (not a computer one)?

Sorry for the Novel, but thanks !!

I won't hold the fact that you live in Jayhawk land against you (I live in Kansas City). Yes I have EX CD creator 6 too, but only use it to capture and author from my Digital camcorder. I use My Sonic DVD mostly when authoring DVDs from other source material such as MPEGs recorded off my TV Tuner. You are limited to finding your problem in 3 areas which you may already know. Your DVD media and authoring program, your burning software and finally the DVD player that you are trying to play them in. It sounds like you are taking all the right steps if the DVD RW plays fine. Have you tried taking that DVD R that won't play in your set top player and tried it in another DVD Player. Also check the compatibility of your player by searching under DVD players to the left in this forum. You may find that your player (you haven't mentioned which model) might be the culprit. I hope its not an early model APEX?

  6. I'm only for Jawhawk basketball and since the two stars and their daddy left, I'm just a filmmaker living in Lawrence.

Ok anyways, I use Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD+R (2.4X Speed Vitesse) discs (the purple label ones). The very first DVD I burned was taking 9 MPEGS and importing them into DVD Workshop. Made a simple menu, outputed a large VOB (and rest) burned the DATA to many CD-R's, took it to my dad's office and reassembled the data into a VIDEO_TS directory and had the guys burn it to a DVD (by dragging the files to the disc, using a program like Nero or EZ-Creator 6). I played it on my TV-DVD player at home and it worked fine (I even sent it to PBS KTWU in topeka for a show we did and they had no problem dubing it to Beta SP. My TV-DVD player is a GE (the one at Wal-Mart) and it plays DVD, VCD, and audio CD's. Play my disc like a charm. Now my DVD player up stairs (which I have never used nor mentioned in any of my posts) rejects it and I don't remember what it is at the moment.

I created my MPEGS by exporting an AVI in Premiere and then converting it to MPEG (LPCM) using TMPGen. (The same I used for the DVD that works). Some times I export a direct MPEG from Premiere (6.5 allows this). Then I import all into DVD Workshop and make my menus, MPEG video transistions between menu selects and such. I tell it to export to a directory (instead of directly burning to a DVD or CD) becaue before I got this DVD burner, it rejected all of my CDR's when I went to burn directly.

Then I use Nero to copy the VIDEO_TS files over...burn it and it has a VIDEO_TS (with all files) and an AUDIO_TS directory.

my head hurts and I my coster collection is getting too big.

    Again, sorry for the novel

    Thanks,

  7. ALSO ... not that this might have anything to do with anything, but the manual says to make my DVD burner the MASTER jumper. Says to make it the SEcondary Master for the ribon cable.

WEll, my previous CD-R was on Cable Select for the jumper. So the secondary ribbon cable comes out of the mother board, into the DVD+R and then ends at the DVD-ROM. Now the book says the DVD+R must be the master jumper (which I have cable select set now) and must be the secondary master ribbon (which I have hooked up before the DVD-ROM)

    Hard Drive 2

    |
    Hard Drive 1
    |
    |
    |
    Mother Board------DVD+R-------DVD-ROM
(Harddrives being on the primary cable and DVD's on the secondary)

Now does this make a difference??????

    Thanks

Could be a book type problem read this http://www.dvdplusrw.org/resources/bitsettings.html
    & http://www.dvdplusrw.org/resources/bitsettings_pc.html
TRY CHANGING THE BOOK TYPE OF YOUR DVD+R . YOU CAN DO THIS USING THE LATEST VERSION OF NERO USE DVD VIDEO AND MAKE SURE THAT ISO LEVEL 1 IS CHECKED ALONG WITH ISO 9660. UNCHECK EVERYTHING ELSE. CLICK NEW. AT THE TOP OF THE SCRENE SELECT RECORDER NOW SELECT MEDIUM-INFO PRACTISE USING A +RW NOW CHANGE BOOK TYPE TO DVD ROM. THE FOLLOWING CAN BE USED TO CHECK WHAT BOOK TYPE YOUR DVD+R DISKS ARE RECORDED. BUT DOSEN'Y APPLY TO CHANGING DVD+R BOOK TYPE. OPEN YOUR WRITE CD DIALOG UNDER BURN CHECK BOOK TYPE DVD-ROM. HOPE THIS HELPS I HAVE NOT HAD DVD PLAYER THAT COULD'T PLAY MY DISCS USING THIS METHOD ALWAY USE BOOK TYPE DVD-ROM FOR DVD+R/+RW TO BE MUST COMPATIBLE.

  9. my girlfriend has an APEX DVD player and the first DVD+R did the same thing ... kept looping on that one section of the movie for the menu. I placed the second DVD+R (the one that will display the menu and when clicked, locks up on my DVD player) will work on her APEX. WEIRD!!

But I think you are right about checking the settings.

Anything else that might help, please let me know ... I do appreciate all that you have done!

    Thanks a bunch!

it your computer rom drives are cable select

    leave them alone

    mines are cable select

    my wife are master, slave

use TMPGEnc dvd author to make your mpegstto dvd compliant files

    Don't use roxio dvd builder

i have the roxio cd but the dvd builder part is not install on my computer

as everybody has problem with that

try to burn as udf 1.02 (dvd rom) if your nero supprts that

if it don't download a free trail of gear pro to burn your dvd

  11. I switched the DVD burner to Secondary Master and my DVD ROM to Slave. For some reason, it stopped giving my the blue message of death when XP started.

As far as burning, I already figured out how to burn a DVD and have it play back on players. I use Nero now.

  12. if you can, try switching to the latest nero express....it hides most of the advanced settings, thereby automatically selecting for you the best settings to burn the DVD-R/+R at....should do a test run with DVD-RW/+RW on your standalone dvd player first....but nero express has worked well for people lately

plz disregard any of the nero bashers out there...i've been using nero for a very long time to author my (S)VCDs and now my DVD-Rs....never failed me... you just need the right settings...and w/ nero express, you don't even have to worry, as it sets them for you....
