I'd like to capture through my TV card (Hauppauge BT 848) to MPEG directly.
However, I cannot find any working Codec though I tried many: MGI, DVMPEG, Matrox, Elecard, Etymonix, ...)
Most of em suck, lack of beeing set up to my needs (e.g. Bit rate) or
just SUCK (= dont work!).
DVMPEG: Only works in "Video only" mode (tried all possible settings), creates non-valid S/VCD mpegs - useless
MGI: creates 128kb files - doesn't work at all
Matrox: no setup possible, DV only - useless
Elecard: no encoder available
Etymonix: same as Matrox, DV only - useless
Seems to be a waste of time, but maybe some1 has an answer.
I prefer iuVCR (some functionality as buggy-PowerVCR II), but
without mpeg Codec I can't use it. Apps like PowerVCR II have
their own built-in Encoder.
PS: Don't advice me to capture to divx or lossless MJPEG first and
convert to VCD with TMPEnc later -- too much work, takes too long.
Any ideas?

Hey!
As far as I know MPEG2 VfW Codec DOES NOT exist at all.
Thats why we have so much crappy soft starting from Intervideo
and ending with Cyberlink.) I guess they protect the code or whoever knows what.
I have not seen any alive Mpeg2 encoder codec - at least not in this
universe)) Must ask programmers to do something ( some think too)
I wait for codec and who knows how long. -
Try ULead DVD Movie Factory-it will capture to mpeg2 format with VFW drivers if you enable preview provided the resolutions supported by your VFW drivers are compatible with DVD specs -ideally use Btwincap WDM drivers with ULead and you will get superb results.
Am using Btwincap drivers with ULead DVD Movie Factory with another card with Btx chipset and getting as good captures as with Virtualdub using VFW drivers with PicVideo MJPEG codec. The Btwincap site mentions ULead software as being highly compatible with their drivers!
My OS Windows 98 SE/Windows XP dual boot-XP stinks
My PC PIV 2.4GHz.
