  1. Need help. I can't play vcds on my Win2K pc. Am using software vcd plus Windows Media Player 7.1. Error msg said I/O error.

Also tried DVD software. Error msg said must install DVD decoder.

Tried website advice & downloaded SCSI1HLP.VXD. But not sure which folder to place, as Win2k doesn't have folder SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS. Tried folders Winnt\System32 and Winnt\Driver cache\i386. Still doesn't work.

    Greatly appreciate advice.

  2. You need to d/l WINDVD. its the best for playing vcd/svcd.
use windows player for avi or divx only

  3. I can play VCD with my Win2K system.

What files are you trying to open? The files you are play are *.dat files found in the MPEGAV folder. There is a dat for each mpg. (I am not sure this is standard for all VCDs, I used EZCD Creator to make my VCD.) It have to play each file individually unless you create an ASX file to file them all.

  4. Same here, I get exactly the same problem as well.
However, not that the problem happens to ALL vcds, but just a few. All of the movie VCDs I get from rental work fine, just a few exceptions that I get a I/O error.

I heard that some VCDs are designed only to be used with VCD players (eg. To be played and viewed on TV, and not with a CD-ROM), but then programs like PowerDVD and XingMpeg Player should solve that problem. I tried both programs and still doesn't help. Any suggestions anyone?

  5. What files (*.dat?) are you trying to open?

  6. Hi, Yes, I'm trying to play *.dat files in the MPEGAV folder. It's a VCD provided for a course I'm attending, & I checked with them and they successfully played it on Windows Media Player itself by "opening the MPEGAV\*.dat file", so it's a problem at my end ie. within my OS & software.

I'll try looking for WINDVD to download - is it available at CNET or ZD download?

    Any further leads? Thanks.

  7. THe problem is solved. Someone recommended me to use WinDVD to run those vcds that give you the i/o error, and the program worked great. It ran all the vcds that didn't worked before and extremely easy to use. I think if pingcleveland try to use this program, it should solve your problem just like it solved mine.

  8. Power DVD also works. Just start the program, and insert the disc into a DVD drive. Doesn't work the same with CD drive.

  10. I can't play VCD with my Win2K system. Windows Media Player 7.1 error msg said: Incorrect function. I tried to copy avseq01.dat file, windows explorer error msg said: Cannot copy AVSEQ01:Invalid MS-DOS function. Also in the Event Viewer got a warning msg: An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom0 during a paging operation.
Tried DVD software (ASUSDVD), but doesn't helped.
The problem is dependent from the CD-ROM drive.
I tried on several computer configurations and noticed only the win2k and NT operating system not play the VCD.
    Any suggestions anyone?
