I have tried to updated my ATI's MMC 7.1 to 7.6 for my ATI AIW 128PRO running with Windows 98

I had no problem with my display, or with file player (except for not being
able to take a still of a media file), but, I can't get TV player to work.

(Library don't work either - but I don't care about it)

When I open TV Player I get the following message:

THE TV PLAYER FAILED TO INTIALIZED THE VIDEO

CHECK THE WINDOW DEVICE MANAGER TO ENSURE THAT THE CORRECT VIDEO DRIVER HAS
BEEN INSTALLED AND IS WORKING PROPERLY BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO RESTART TV

Then I went to Device Manager, It seems to show everything working (no
    yellow "!" ).

But, when I use ATI's system compatibility check I am informed that only
thing that my system failed is : WDM devices are not listed in registry

I have tried using the lastest drivers for the card, but, still No TV player which means no video capture.

So, I went back to MMC 7.1.

I now have again still capture under File Player, and ATI's system compatibility check (along with Device Manager) shows no problem but, I still get the "TV PLAYER FAILED TO INTIALIZED THE VIDEO" message .

What in the heck is still wrong

  2. I actually had the same problem with ati tv wonder ve, albeit i didn't upgrade to 7.9. When i first installed the card, i could get everything but the tv to work. I found out that the drivers that are included with the card are terrible and you're not supposed to use them. I had to look on the internet to find the correct drivers. I don't know about the card that you have but i am 99% sure that it is a driver problem.

I have tried new, beta, and the orginal drivers.

I have DirecX 8 and the Video Capture update

I still can't get TV player to work

I have everthing ATI states I need

It did work until I tried to fix a "pink tint" problem I had in which a pinkish hue would appear on my screen.

Oh \ow I wish that I didn't try to fix it.

For now I can'r do the one thing I got AIW for.

    Capturing video

Now I have to contact ATI

    Oh, that will be fun

  4. I too am having problems with 8.1. My TV comes up and works fine for about 15 seconds and then I get an error message (sorry not at that system now) that doesn't tell me much but does give me the location to a appcomtext file ? that has all the info which still tells me next to nothing.
The TV will still play but as soon as I click the close button, it stops. I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything and nothing works. The only software I've installed lately is PowerDVD 5 which works great...maybe this caused a problem? And, in WinDVD and NeoDVD, the tv function works great and I get no errors.
Also, although I've downloaded 8.5, it still says 8.1...is there another location to download the 8.5 file?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

    >Question did you get all these? I did an got the TV to play again.

I checked out the following sites with these results

I have already installed the lastes driver for my computer:
Version 4.13.5104. Besides I am still using MMC 7.1

Why do I need Window Media Encoder 9?
Especially since it can't be used with the WIndows 98 OS
Besides I allready have Window Media Encoder 7 and 8

All I get is the following message:
Thank you for your interest in Windows Update
Windows Update is the online extension of Windows that helps you get the most out of your computer.
You must be running a Microsoft Windows operating system in order to use Windows Update.

All I get is the message:
    Bandwidth Limit Exceeded
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later.

  7. Had same problem myself before.
    1. Download all the latest drivers/software for your card.
    2. Uninstall the whole ATI mess, capture, video, mmc.
    3. DELETE ALL THE ATI DIRECTORIES, mainly MMC directory under "c:\Program Files".
    4. Reboot (cancel every "found new hardware" for the moment)
    5. Reinstall all latest drivers for your card as instructed on ATI website

I think just deleting that directory is the key.
Will check my email archives (contacted customer support back then) tonight and reply again if I missed anything.

I FINALLY got TV Player to work

All I did wait/used the computer for a few days before reloading MMC

By that time maybe any "bug" that did not allow the use of TV player was "flushed" out of my computer.

BTW While I am using the lastest driver for AIW128 Pro/Win 98 I have gone back to MMC 7.1

    Why use an older version

Becuase only in File Player 7.1 I find that the camera icon (for taking stills of movies) is not grayed out and not working.

In newer version I can't do that.

The strange part about using MMC 7.6 was the TV player/capture worked with no problem.

It was only File Player that had the no still capture problem

How the same feature can work in one part of the same application and not another is one of those strange things who answer lie somewhere deep in the Frozen Canadian Tundra

7.1 (which did NOT tell you about dropped frames ) and 7.7 are the most stable ones. The file player from 7.1 is (and was) the best file player ever. 8.1 is alright, but a bit unstable and a b**ch to install.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
