  1. Its seems to work great for us, but I've heard rumblings that this is not the case for other folks.

  2. I'm not sure if this is related to SVCD, but when I try DVD or CVD, I get a blank "burnthis" output directory. Tried it with a couple of different movies.

  3. with 1.6?

    Really?

We did like 15+ full test runs and never had a failure...

Please post as MUCH detail as you can:

App location, name of DVD, name of Hard Drive(s), disk space, name of temp and final directories.

    Thanks.

    Yep, 1.6...here's the details:

    1. App HD Name: Mac HD (default name)
    2. App Location: Applications/forty-two-v1.6
    3. App HD free space: 51GB
    4. Final directory HD name: Data
    5. Final directory name: Shared/Movies/dvd/Bourne
    6. Temp folder name: Mac HD/Users/Shared/temp
    7. Final directory free space: 42GB
    8. Movies: Bourne Identity, My Big Fat Greek Wedding
    9. OS 10.2.6
    10. 2x867 MDD 512MB

  5. HRRRRMMMM

    Ok.

    Try this:

Do NOT have the temp and final as child dirs of the same parent

I have no ide *why* this would be an issue, but its definatly a pattern
my temp is like /Users/Shared/Movies and final /Users/mrkai/Movies

    or the inverse

    Try something like that...

and people...when testing do a *short run*...a couple of chapters.

We *know* you "want it to work" etc but its just not helpful to us (or you) to wait hours and hours for failed results
or if you want to do a fast test, set the vbr to 31. it will look like poo, but run thru faster.

I think this problem is a dir parse issue tho, so use a different tree for the temp and final

  6. FYI...

After 12 Hrs+ converstion to VCD on a iBook G3, I have an empty ?????_BurnWhatsInHere folder and also didn't see any speed up with 42-1.6.

    Kai,

It might not have been clear in my posting, but the temp dir is on my boot drive (Mac HD) and the final dir is on a 2nd separate drive (Data) in a similarly named directory tree.

I'll try a different setup and start it before I take off to work this morning.

No problems here. Two VCDs, custom bit-rate, output and temp directory the same folder on a striped RAID volume. Well, actually there is a problem. I had to run both twice to get the right size .bin file for one CD. And call me picky , but, is there anyway you can normalize the the audio? I wasn't satisfied with the volume level and ended up playing around with the 'biles' files and ffmpegX to make an increased volume level VCD. Otherwise, 1.6 is a winner for me. Oh, both DVDs were a little over 90 minutes a piece and they each took a little over 2 hours on a FW800 Dual 1.25. Have a good one.

    --------------- EDIT -----------------
    Hey Kai, Up Here!
I'm posting this HERE because when I try to reply down THERE, I get this message; Error - No double posts, you have already posted this message before here. If you want to edit your post click on the EDIT button on your post here
    Don't ask me.....

    non-standard VCDs with lowered bitrates
Something like that, they play on my Samsung and with VLC. I think I had to choose XVCD in the tools section of ffmpegX after I normalized the audio to keep ffmpegX from messing with the files created by 42. The VCD .bins created by 42 and burnt to CD with Toast worked fine, except my volume knob was getting near the end. I think I set 42s rate to around 1000 to get the right size file. These are basically throw aways I'm taking on a trip with me. Speaking of which... gotta go....

Please explain this. You made non-standard VCDs with lowered bitrates?

  11. OK, I tried the CVD on the Bourne Identity and specified a different set of directories for final and temp. I used my second hard drive named "Data" and created a "temp directory off the root for the temporary files and created a directory named "bourne" for the final directory. After the run I had a single file in the final directory named THE_BOURNE_IDENTITY.iso and it was only 576KB. Nothing in temp.

Should I try it on my primary hard drive?

Just finnished a DVD to SVCD, works great and has everything in the folder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kai: Should I re-donate to you! Thanks for working that out!

    I wonder something here:

Could those who are not getting files in the burn whats in here folder not have installed it propelry.

Since most of us probably have v1.5 maybe they are not running the support app that you have to run AFTER you manually drag the FORTY-TWO folder to your apps support folder.

I am just speculating here, but wouldnt v1.6 still run just have the old versions support folder - thus making the .bin build not work? Not sure how exactly the program works, but this is my speculation.

  14. We were worried about folks doing just that, so we made sure the new split code stuff was inside forty-two.app

Chris is finding from what we've been able to dermine that people are using paths with either spaces or non ascii characters.

This of course, is fraught with implication and doomed to failure

We urge anyone having problems to download the 'skeeter build of 1.6 so we can try to get some *clue* about what is happening.

The link is in a new thread (that I'me about to make).

Just a note for others who stumble across this........
Most of the time if you are getting an error message in ffmpegx, MMB, Sizzle, forty-two..... and the list goes on and on, 9 times out of 10 its because you have illegal characters or spaces in your paths!

  16. And another thing (I just noticed this):

Please use the suggested name (or another in ALL UPPER CASE) for your save.

I found a *very* illusive little bug that filters out the lowercase letters m,p and g

Speaking of error messages... as a PC to Mac switcher, one thing I have noticed is that Mac apps seem to emit less error messages. I'm not saying that errors aren't happening, I'm saying they aren't displayed. This is sometimes frustrating to me because when things don't work, I don't have a clue why. I'm sure a lot of folks wouldn't know what an error message was telling them, but for some of us, it saves a call to support, etc. Apps that are typically used by more advanced users, in my opinion should have more technical feedback to the user when things don't go right. My 2 cents.

    Ha, ha, very funny. :P
OK, all uppercase and select at least one folder outside your home dir for 42 to play with yes? Then everyone will play nice? I'll give it another whirl. Keep up the great work it's really appreciated!!!

  19. Actually it was very hard to find this.

In actual operation it doesn't seem to have any effect on the outcome (here) because dvdmp uses the broken name anyway.

Jusy letting folks know that if they were looking for "populargroovymoovie-BurnWhatsInHere' what they are actually going to find is "oularroovyoovie-BurnWhatsInHere"
