Well the easiest way is to just take a screen capture using a dvd software player but if you actually want to rip the stills they are just located in one of the vobs. Just rip everything to your hard drive and look at the vobs in dvd2avi. When you find it make a project file out of it and load it in any program that lets you do a screen capture or export a single frame. I use adobe premier.

  3. I usually just export the section I want as stills (e.g., the scene selection still screens) as a short uncompressed AVI clip at full resolution (with Flask).

Then, I load up the AVI with VirtualDub, go to the appropriate part and "copy source frame", and paste in a imaging proggy (e.g., Paint Shop Pro).

  4. I've noticed several cases where a screen capture doesn't work; it just gives a black block. Its really wierd, when I do a screen capture from a software player, then move the window around IN THE PAINT PROGRAM and it changes the picture in the window to match something in the DVD player (a completely different program!).

What I do is use the preview for "Source Range" in TMPGEnc, find the shot I want, then capture that into Paint Shop Pro. Nice for making CD covers.

  5. BxB,

The problem you are experiencing is because your video card supports overlaying of video (a good thing -- and most modern video cards would have this). If you do want to just do a screen capture (i.e., pressing PrintScreen), you will just capture a block of colour rather than the actual video image. This can be easily demonstrated by pressing "Print Screen" while playing an mpeg with Windows Media Player.

If you are using WMP, you can capture the actual image by going into the settings and turning off hardware acceleration completely.

When I said to do a screen capture from the dvd software player I meant in the program itself, not prnt scrn. Not all players have this option but when I do use it I use varodvd.
