  2. Thank you so very much for this information. I has been working with an out-of-state lawyer RE this in the past - and am glad to know how to make my claim.

I URGE EVERYONE to fill in the forms ASAP - as the deadline is approaching.

  3. I am just plain ole' curious here and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the reason for the class action lawsuit. I read the document on the link and it genr....general....generaliz....it doesnt go into great detail as to why the class action was brought against HP. They apparently made some claims. What were they???

  4. When the 100i was released(1/02)it only burned to +R/W and HP was claiming it would release a firmware update in 5/02 that would allow +R.Well 5/02 came and HP released the 200i and quietly forgot the firmware promise but the owners of the 100i didn't and complained so HP had a trade-in of the 100i for the 200i at a cost of $99.Owners of the 100i brought the suit against HP because they were unfairly charged $99.
Basically if you own(ed) a 100i you have 2 choices:
1.if you traded-in you are entitled to $99
    2.if you didn't trade-in then you are entitled to a 200i

  5. I received my replacement drive about 1.5 weeks ago and it is working fine. I don't use HP software so I can't comment on it. Returning the drive using the enclosed Fedex label was easy - except that my local "UPS Store" can't accept Fedex shipments anymore. Fedex pulled out when the chain changed their name.

They don't give you much time to return the old drive.

I did the $99 trade in from the DVD100 to DVD200 last year.

Recently, I filled out the class action suit form, had it notarized, and sent it in to HP.

About a week later, an HP guy called me and said that they would send the $100 check in about a week.

That was about a week ago.

Still no check, but I haven't checked my mailbox today.

    ----just checked
$99 check in my mailbox. Thank you HP for doing the right thing.

.... now will the check clear the bank?

  7. I followed all the rules for the DVD100i class action settlement with HP. They notified me that my replacement 200i was "in the mail". After nearly a month the DVD200i never arrived. After I went thru the trouble of tracking their package and discussing the shipping problems with FedEx QA department, I followed up with HP Technical Support. Turns out they sent the drive to the wrong address and FedEx returned the drive back to HP because there is no such address. So HP puts another replacement order into the queue for me and says it's going to be 3 weeks before the replacement will arrive. AFTER THEY JUST RECEIVED BACK THE 200i DRIVE THEY ORIGINALLY SENT!! I reluctantly accept the error and their feeble attempt to abide by the settlement as this seemed to be an innocent error. But now after the three weeks go by, I have to call HP to learn the 2nd replacement drive is NOT in the mail and there is NO expected date for the shipment due to a backorder. No one at HP can tell me when the drive will ship or how many units are on indefinite back order. So can someone direct me to the legal body that generated the original class action suit? I think they can help me and the rest of the "backorders".

  8. Well as a former Customer Support rep (not for HP), I can tell you the rep will ALWAYS say the check is on its way, even if they know for damm well sure it isnt. Calls are recorded, people WILL be fired for portraying the company in a negative light.

Curious, didnt HP get slapped with a class action lawsuit years ago for their CD-RW drives? Something about the drives not writing to the maximum capacity (advertised as burning up to 650 megs, but only doing 620?).
