I have had many messages on these forums and no one seems to help, so i guess this is my last chance.
I am using windows xp pro,512mb ram,80gig raid hard drive (2x40gb) and a AMD xp 1700+ and my sony dru500ax
firmware 2.0f
Here is my dilema:
I have an LG player in my living room, she plays anything i give her. When i do some for friends they dont all work in the machines. I mostly use instant copy after i have found this to work on most ps2. How ever some of my copies skip after so long into the film! They dont even play in a teac 2150! I have used nero and that doesnt work on ps2 or the Teac, i have used normal dvd burn in nero and UDF.
I have used dvd decrypter and dvd2one before i burn, i am using Princo discs, i have used 1x and 2x discs same result, is it the media ?
I am running out if burning software and my wife is getting upset at the waste of discs i am developing, can anyone help?
thanks

I'm not sure if I'd categorize 6 messages as "many messages" -- have you posted six separate requests with no answers? That indeed would be a lot, but I kind of doubt that no one has responded to you.
The usual advice breaks down as follows: use the latest version of Nero, use quality disks, and understand that not all standalone players will correctly play your recorded disks no matter what you do.
I use Record Now and have had a lot better luck with it than with Nero -- but that may just be me. But I also use only quality (TDK, Verbatim, BeAll) disks. But I also recognize there will be some machines that won't play the disks I create -- usually the newer the player the more likely it is it will have no problems.
If your friends have older players, you may just well be out of luck, at least until they buy something newer. With machines going for less than $70 this appears to be the best advice you can give them nowadays."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -
i have the same problem, use samsung 1x, maxell 2x, sony 2x, all dvd-r with my sony dru-500ax. all the dvd-r's skips and freez in dvd players: LG 4941P, Pioneer DV-355 and Toshiba 220e. I want to back my dru-500 or please somone help me with my problem?
The software i use: Nero, recordnow dx, instant copy 7, DVD Decrypter.
All results are the same. -
I, too, have a Sony DRU-500A. I backup DVDs for my personal use, and I burn home movies for several of my relatives. (No, I don't give them copies of my home movies, I take their home movies, digitize them, and burn them onto DVD-Rs.)
I started off using Ritek G03 disks, and had very good luck with the disks I burnt playing everywhere. I went through 150 of the Riteks, and was very well pleased. Recently, the Ritek G03 disks have been very hard to find. Rima.com advertised the Princo 4X DVD-R media for a very low price ($115 for 100 disks, now even lower). Rima also stated on their web site that the disks would burn at 4x in my Sony. Well, that turns out not to be the case. They do burn at 2x, however, and for the price I thought 2x would be acceptable.
Now that I have burnt about 25 of them (including several for relatives), I find that they are not as compatible as the Riteks. My Cyberhome 402 settop player will often fail to recognize a Princo. Two of my relatives have reported similar results, one with an Apex 1200, the other with a Norcent settop player.
Based on the above, I would suggest to you that your problem is with the media that you are using. -
I backed up T2 extreme with INSTANT COPY
Had freezes on COMPUTER ONLY
get this:
DISC PLYS FINE IN ANY SETTOP (3 tested)
but on computer ..Chapter 15 would always loop back to the beginning of same, and it would freeze at the beginning of chapter 16 and 18 always!
So I played the file from the HARD DRIVE..the problem was righ there in the file..
But burning another disc..
SETTOPs have no problem with it
I SHOULD THINK THT IT WOUL BE THE OTHER WAY AROUND
(freeze in settop ...play fine on hdd)
so I re SHRUNK the whole thing and USED DVD SHRINK thi time
NO PROBLEMS..
still trying to figgure out why the shitty pinnacle product did this and how would i detect such a problem before burning!!! -
When in doubt, always burn to a RW disc before burning to an R. After burning the RW disc, check brief pieces of the movie to see if any problems occur. To my knowledge, there is no way to check the movie, other than playing it from your hard drive, before you burn. Hope this helps. 8) 8) 8) 8)

I swear to god, I must be the luckiest guy alive.
I have the DRU-500AX, with factory firmware (I think it's 2c).
I've been burning on Sony rewritables, Khypermedia dvd-r's, and bulk-pack cheap discs from Meritline.
I burn them all with Nero.
they work on my drives, they work on my set top (Apex), they work on the various players of 4 or 5 friends who I've made discs for. I have yet to have someone come back and say "my player can't play this".
the only coasters I've burned (less than out of 100+ discs) were my own fault (bad setup or bad data), not the disc, not the burner, not Nero.

Yeah If I had watched the whole movie I wouda seen the
PINNACLE Instant Copy COMPUTER-ONLY FREZE PROBLEM
but I checked the RW I burned in a settop (silly me)
and when the settop was fine..DIDN'T think they'rd be a constant problem if you play the same disc on a a computer
This is a little wierd,,,but I'm using shrink now unless it doesn't work on some titles, it seem to beat out Instant Copy for this reason alone! -
well i remember this prob with dvd to vcds with instant copy. the mpgs came out fine picture etc but tmpen dvd author did not like them for some reason. so i did the same movie in tmpen and it worked, ofcource the audio was not 48k but tmpen dvd author did that for me.
