Some dvd player doesn't run cd-r/cd-rw. How can I crack it?

Hi,
There are some dvd player that can't play cd-r or cd-rw... I' ve heard that I can crack it and make the dvd player run this kind of cds... Is it possible? How can I do it? HOw can i crack this "lock"?

It's not a lock it's the laser. Not all lasers can read all media. Some standalones can not play CDR, CDRW, DVD-R, DVD+R, etc. etc. My old roommate had a sony DVD player that could not read CDRs but could read DVD-R.

There's really nothing you can but get another standalone.
