I'd be willing to bet that they're copies of originals that have been ripped without the region encoding and burned to DVD-R. Even if the disc looks original, it could just be an inkjet job.

You see then at Camden market and down Holloway road.

Or it could be that it's an original disc (they will play on multi-region and region 2).

In which case they are definately illegal and are copies of either screener DVDs giver to journalists before a film is released or it's a cinema copy (either from the spool or from the screen).

Either way, it's illegal - stop buying them.

If you check the DVD info, about 90% of players will play -R disks of some sort (but a player may not play all brands of -R). See more info in the DVD Media section.

  5. I have actually seen boot legs that are pressed, Dual Layer DVD's. Obviously some large organisation is producing these. I won't give the movie title, but it was a very recent blockbuster movie from early may. It was a very low quality CAM, encoded to mpeg-2 DVD at a very high bitrate, requiring about 7.5 Gigs for the movie alone. Honestly, you would have thought they would know better than this! A complete waste of media if you ask me.
