Burning Programs with Windows ME ?

ok, im still VERY new to this, iv only burned 2 moveis so far, here was my method

DVDDecrypter
DVDFab
IMGTOOL
DVDDecrypter

it works perfect!! i get EXACT duplicates of the movie, no LOSS in extras, menus or quality... only downside is it takes 2 disks...

Ok here is problem.... at work I have a Hewlitt Packard Computer that we upgraded the HD... it was a 40g with Windows XP... so that hard drive was just laying around.... so the first 2 times I did the burns I was using Windows XP.... so I found this HD and thought I would take it home (would rather do the burning at home) so I just took out my 'old' HD and put in the 'new' HD and it wouldnt boot... jumpers were right, set to master... and it wouldnt boot.... started to, then just kept rebooting... windows never loaded...

so i took back to work and put the same HD in its ORGINAL computer, and it worked perfect!! whats the deal??

i tried doing the EXACT same meathod of burning on my home computer with Windows ME and I cant get it to work, im stuck on the IMGTOOL step... IMGTOOL wont work, it just stays stuck at 0% and wont do anything....

could Windows ME/XP be the problem? i heard that Windows ME cant handle that large of a file

if so, how do I load that XP HD on my computer?

Widows ME cannot handle any file over 4 GB...This is a limitation of Fat32 and thus 9X platforms. You need a NT platform with at least one partition formatted with NTFS to do DVD -> Image -> Re-author -> Burn due to the fact that many dvd Images require over 4GB. The Operating systems that support NTFS partitions are - NT, Win 2k, Win XP, and Windows 2003 Server when it is officially released if it hasn't been yet.

thats what I figured since I did EVERYTHING exactly the same....

so if I have to have XP.... what do I do without going and buying it? is there a way to get this HD to work on a different computer than it came with? its a 40g HD with XP and hate to just throw it away.... it was a Hewlitt Packard and has a few good programs loaded on it too...

anyway, i have all the paperwork and serial numbers that came with it, is there a way to format the HD and then have windows give me another disk or anything??

or really, is there a way I can just plug this HD into my computer and make it work? like i said, it works if i put back in original computer, but if I put in my home computer, it wont work... computer wont boot, just keeps restarting before windows even loads

Doesn't XP have the provision for copying things like settings onto a new drive ? I'm sure I've read that somewhere.

What I think you would need to do is install XP onto the new drive (easy since it's an original, all you need to do is go through the product activation process) and then, I THINK you can copy the settings etc off of the old drive. I suspect there is a wizard for this, but you would have to do a little research at say Microsoft's site or the XP help system.

If it works, let us know ! I'm sure I'll have to do the same sort of thing one day, and it's not a job I relish the idea of.

Oh yeah - does Symatec's Ghost work with XP ? I'm sure there are other "cloning" programs out there too, but that's the only one I have ever used (on ME).

did you try to load the system in safe mode ?
you might be able to get into the control panel and uninstall
some of the hardware there.
it sounds to me that xp has some conflict between what is allready installed on it and what its trying to install because your system is different.

if its windows xp home, you might have a problem because
xp home locks if there is too much change in the hardware.

if its xp pro, you might get away with it.

Are you sure you went into your computer's BIOS and correctly set up this "new" HDD that you installed into your computer? You have to tell the BIOS that it is there and what kind of HDD it is (although the BIOS should auto detect it I think you still need to enter the BIOS and let it know that this HDD is there instead of the one you took out).

If you do that and still have trouble see if you can load WinXP in SAFE MODE. I forget how to do this but I think you have to "hit" one of the FUNCTION keys while the OS is loading (before you see the MICROSOFT WinXP splash screen I think).

why dont u use dvdxcopy it will do all the same things with just one program and it will split on 2 discs as well

Why dont you just stick with windows ME and use ifoedit to create new ifo files making sure you use the split to 2 disks option this will give you the files you need and will keep the original quality then just burn with a suitable burning program like nero or record now max or set ifoedit to produce iso image and burn with dvd decrypter in iso write mode .... better still use dvd2one and burn the whole thing to one disk the loss in quality is vertually unoticeable in 99% of cases

and just for the curious few out there wondering how I know this.

first hand experience with some people at work who wanted to upgrade their computers.

I never buy labeled machines, as I build my own and can get exactly what I want for a reasonable price.

Sony and Gateway do the same thing. I don't know how that works. There aren't that many ways to load a drive and OS.

the way it works is similar to the way a Sony Playstation game loads. The cd's cannot be copied and played unless you have a modchip or something similar for this reason.

The proprietary versions have a preloader that looks at the MOBO's BIOS and if it is not what the OS is programmed to look for you get no boot or the infamous BSOD.
