Just finished recording a vinyl LP master recording to a 24 bit/96 KHz .WAV file which ends up being 1.19 GB (entire album).

How do I create an Audio only DVD without losing any quality.

    Sounds very excellent.

    Thanks.

  2. I'm sorry, I don't have an answer to your question, but only another question:

How did you make the 24 bit/96 KHz recording? I believe CD quality audio is 16 bit/44 Khz. Do you need a special sound card and/or software?

    he said vinyl not cd.

I have no idea how to do it other than trying to just import the file into an authoring program and then author with no video. I don't think they accept .wav files though.

  4. DVD spec requires at least one video, even if it is nothing more than a dummy clip.

I am assuming you want to make a Movie format DVD with the music included, and not an Audio_DVD. True Audio DVD is out of my realm of experience, but you can make a Music Movie DVD fairly simply.

I use DVDlab, but most apps will work just as well.

One simple solution would be to create a menu for each song, attach a simple menu background picture, and set the time out for each menu to go to the next one. That way you will only have to create a menu background picture, rather than a full video the same length as your songs. The only drawback to this is that you will not be able to fast forward or rewind within the songs themselves. They would simply play to the end and then skip automatically to the next menu. Also, you could set up menu buttons to skip to the next song, back to the previous, etc.

If you want to be able to fast forward within the individual songs, then you will need to create video to go with the music. It will need to be the same length as the music as well. Your best bet is using a still picture in something like Adobe Premier and using that to create an MPEG2 of the correct length.

Hope that helps and gives you some ideas.

  5. You can try to author an audio DVD. I have no idea how to do this, or if software exist that you can uptain

You best bet is to convert your audio to ac3, make a mpeg still. And then author it as a video DVD. You can author with chapter points, etc. and create a menu for navigation.

  6. I'd probably use a black screen as the video, and do it that way (though it's probably not the right way).
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  7. DVD-AUDIO is LPCM audio 24bit/96khz and 5.1 channels, there is authoring software that will make a DVD-A but they start at $500.Cheapest way would be TMPGEnc(LPCM audio)and use a still picture(thx MIRROR_IMAGE)and set video bitrate to 600kbps CBR.

  8. Just a quick post here because I'm behind schedule.

    This may help.

I recently was offered a Panasonic Panasonic F85 to test which offers DVD-Audio. I like it. Read the specs.

I like the concept. But I'm more interested in the DVD-Ram posibilities. Just thought I give a quick post on the DVD-audio stuff.

  12. Several of the posts and links here make reference to DVD-Audio. This is a different format and specification than DVD-Video, and a competing format to SACD. Most DVD players cannot play a DVD-Audio disk.

There are, however, music-only DVDs, that are compatible with all DVD players. Some refer to this as "super audio DVD". More info here: http://www.smr-home-theatre.org/myths/dvdaudio.html

Resolution is at 24 bits/96 KHz, higher than CDDA (standard audio CDs), but lower than DVD-Audio 2-channel stereo.

    Ok, here's the scoop:

Most DVD-Video authoring apps don't support 24/96 PCM files for authoring. Usually it's 16/48. If you really want to keep it 24/96, then use a REAL pro app: DVDMaestro, Sonic Creator or Scenarist, possibly Sonic ReelDVD or DVD Producer, or Apple DVDStudioPro. Then put low-bitrate-video with it (non- or slowly-moving video).

Be prepared: There's still lots of DVD-Video players out there that can't fully play back 24/96. They'll downmix, and some are worse than others. (e.g. NO RESAMPLING, NO REDITHERING).

Or if you actually want to do a DVD-Audio (which will easily support 24/96), try Minnetonka's discWelder Steel.

    HTH,
    Scott
