I live in Australia where we have the PAL B/G standard. I have purchased a Leadtek Winfast TV2000 XP Deluxe but found that the bundled software is not capable of capturing at 480*576 (PAL SVCD). This card uses the Conexant Fusion 878a chipset. Looking on the forums I get the impression that the TV2000XP does not allow capture in a number of resolutions including 480*576 but other cards with this chipset are capable of doing this. Is this true?

I used a number of 3rd party MPEG-2 real time capture applications and found none would allow me to select 480*576. I found that nanoDVR had a specific option to select PAL SVCD 480*576 but when I did it returned an error saying "not available-hardware issue" or something like that. It seems the card has been neutered or this option disabled for some reason.

What I want do is record in MPEG-2 real time at 480*576. I don't want to have to re-encode from another resolution. I want to be able to burn to direct to CD. Does anyone know a card that can do this?

I'm expecting to get flamed for this response but hey
I bought a Snazzi DVC II from Harvey Norman and found that it works extremely well with what I want to do.
It quite happily records 480x576 at many different bitrates
it will also cap at most sizes between 320x388 >> 720x576
As well as 352x576 which I use to make CVD's

I have only had one issue with this card and that is it crashes recording MPEG 1 under Win XP Pro
Which suits me fine since MPEG 1 looks poor on this card
However MPEG 2 encoding works well and looks good

I think the Snazzi DVC 3 has replaced the II - but I think the main difference is software based, not sure on this part though

How much did it cost? I'm looking for something that is cheap so no hardware encoding.

    bunyip,
i see that you have dvd burner, so for you the best choice would be to capture in CVD aka 1/2 D1 aka 352x576, and then burn DVD.
note that only the latest winfast pvr supports this resolution.

Thanks for the responses. I am not bunyip. Bunyip lent me his account to post because I might need to take this card back to the shop today to get a refund. I could not wait the 24 hrs that is required for new members to post. Sorry about the confusion.

    Hi mate,

I use the same card, and we use the same system.
The PVR software that came with the card can capture in different sizes.

Or use an other program, like iuVCR.

You can get a good capture even at 705 x 576 with Mjpeg compressor.

    Greetings,
    Marco

ATI All In Wonder Radeon cards.
    Matrox RTX100 cards.

Looking at another card has no tuner? Use the VCR as the tuner. Simple. Coax in to VCR, RCA out to card.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
