I've seen a bunch listed on Amazon, and was wondering if anybody had any feedback on them.

I've got two...
Digital Video for Dummies focuses on Adobe products, gives you a decent overview of the basics of Premiere and After Effects (also some bits of Photoshop and Illustrator). Good info, solid tutorials, engaging writing.
The Adobe Classroom in a Book series books go much deeper and much more advanced, but they are kinda dry reading, very focused on the technical aspects and not so focused on drawing you in.- housepig

Which version are you using?
I use 6.5, but I have two 5.0 books that I'm looking to sell and I've decided that eBay is waaay too full of non-paying bidders...(Uh, I hope this isn't considered advertising, if so, sorry)
Anyway, one is the Adobe Classroom in a book -- good book, good tutorials and disc included. Even if you just bought Premiere 6.5, this book will be very helpful -- most everything is the same, except for the new mpeg encoder, and windows media and real media export options.
The other is the Virtual Quickstart Guide to Premiere 5.1 -- The VQG series is utter sh** in my opinion (as well as the opinion of others I know). It's not very visual for one thing (I am always perplexed by their claim that they "tech with pictures, not words" - b/c it simply isn't true!). The information is correct, so I guess its useful as a reference to a certain extent...
Anyway, if yr interested, pm me and I'll sell you both for $5.00 plus shipping (let me know if this offer violates the forum rules and I'll delete it)
(That is, once I get home tonight from the in-laws' house) -

you're quite right about the Visual Quickstart series - none of the ones I've looked at were helpful at all, they're written in such a kludgy manner and don't seem to give you much theory or background about why you're doing something - just how to do it.
I mean, you don't want to be buried in theory, but damn, you need a little bit if you're ever going to grow with the app...
I would also recommend, if there's one out there, the IDG "Bibles" series of tech books, I haven't seen a Premiere bible, but I have the Acrobat, Flash and Director bibles, and they are great books. Spendy, though (about $50 each).- housepig
