Hi, I've been trying to get some divx files onto vhs for a long time, and the other day I modded my xbox allowing me to play divx files thru my tv...So I hook up my vcr to my tv press record and start up a divx...Now I've heard that a vcr is supposed to record anything that is playing on the screen, so any ideas why it didn't record anything? Thanks a lot..

Is your Xbox connected directly to your tv?
If it is, you'll need to connect the Xbox to your VCR and then the VCR to the tv. It should record the image now.Happy to be here. -
yep, yep. if your xbox uses a composite out (you know, with the red, yellow, and white outputs), just plug in the white and yellow outputs into audio and video "in" on the vcr respectively, or plug in all three if your vcr is stereo. If your vcr has an option for s-video, use that instead. The rest varies depending on your setup. On my setup, I switch my television to channel 4, and press tv/vcr on my vcr remote to have the vcr signal displayed on the tv. Then I press the "input" button on my vcr remote, to have the external signal connected to the vcr (in this case the xbox), as the primary display, instead of cable television. Of course all this assumes that the vcr is connected to the tv via a coxial output (which looks like a cable tv cable).
Probably overkill, but i hope it helps.Turn your head and cough. -
Thanks a lot guys...Just another quick question: why is it that when I record the video, the end result is in b&w? Thanks...

hmm, odd. make sure that your vcr is auto tuned properly, if you have it connected to a broadcast signal (cable/antenna), sometimes I get problems with this. Also check that you have everything set to the right channel if required (ie channel 4 or 3, although this is unlikely if you are using a composite input from the xbox). Finally, if you have a multisystem vcr, make sure you have the right system set (seems like a no-brainer I know, but I once had a system that had two versions of ntsc).
Just brainstorming, hopefully this helps, if not hopefully someone with more know-how comes along...Turn your head and cough. -
It seems he found his problem in another post. He has an ntsc vcr but a pal xbox.
