  1. i've been capturing some files from TV which are broadcast in anamorphic widescreen. obviously i have no problems encoding them for DVD, but i'll need to add the necessary black bars at the top and bottom for SVCD viewing. is there a way to do this? FFMPEGX only has the option to letterbox .vob files..

  2. no, it also adds black bars to .mov files.

  3. just tried to encode my .mov with the "PAL SVCD" quick preset, letterboxing checked.. it doesn't add any black bars..

  6. This clip is in standard PAL resolution, so black bars are not needed. They are only needed when fitting 16:9 or 2.35:1 resolutions to 4:3 resolutions. Your problem is that your source has not the correct aspect. So you should first resize it to correct aspect (ie use Quicktime to export to 720x400), then encode it (any needed black bars will be added by ffmpegX).
