What are the essential tools?

I just got my DVD RW a week ago.

So far I am using.

DVD Decryptor for mode5 and as the first step for mode9

InstaCopy (with insta tool and pdi to iso) for mode9 <5 GB (or any mode 9 that will fit with stripped audio and features reduced to 30%).

DVD X Copy for mode 9 >5 GB

Deamon Tools 3.29 for mounting ISOs in virtual drives.

Easy SFV 2.7 to verify files are not corrupted durring the write process. 2/30 have completed without error but had one corrupt file when tested.

Ok so what other tools do I need to learn?

Currently what I would like to be able to do but can't is

1) Remove the 321 splash screen from DVD X COPY created DVDs, Before it burned all the files are stored in a VIDEO_TS in my temp drive.

Actually I would like to remove any splash screens that I am unable to skip past.

2) Change the Volume Label on an ISO, or if I can't do that then create a new ISO with a new label.

DVD Decryptor 3.1.6 has a tool to change the volume label, and the file shows that it has been modified, but when I burn no label?

Can I just copy the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TX then burn those to a DVD Video Project with Nero or Record NOW?

If so which setting should I use to make sure it is still compatible with DVD Players?

I don't want detailed instructions for all that I am asking, just what tools I should have, and what when to you what tool?

I'd say dump dvdxcopy and use dvdfab...you'll get rid of that annoying logo and many other problems.

Codesmith, you can use Nero in UDF/ISO mode to burn the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders.

Also, if you have the time (about 6 / 7 hours per backup), you might want to try DVD2DVD-R. You can get very good results on DVD9s > 5Gb.
DVD2DVD-R automatizes (spelling?) the use of DVD2AVI, CCE and ifoEdit to re-encode and re-author.

IFOEdit will do the trick -- there are full instructions here in the forum thread about DVDXCopy (it takes all of about 45 seconds to do it -- I do it for all my 2 disk backups).

I'd add DVDShrink for those episode disks you want to back up, unless you don't buy any episode disks (my usual formula is to use DVDXCopy for all movies larger than one disk, DVDShrink for all episode disks larger than one disk, and DVDShrink for any movie smaller than one disk -- despite its name, DVDShrink will preserve perfect 1:1 copy if you want).

DVDShrink is also good if you *do* want to compress -- I think it's the best tool out there.

Also I'd consider MenuEdit for cleaning up some menus you might be altering. It's not perfect but it's helpful.

i'm using dvd decyrpter to rip, dvd2one to reproccess and strip out audio tracks and menus and sub titles, and nero 5.5.10.35 to burn the compelation.

I am still splitting DVD9's with DVD-X-COPY but now using VOBrator and IFOEdit to remove splash screens. Then I burn them with Record Now, I still use Nero for CDs, but I prefer Record Now for DVDs.

I am sticking with InstaCopy for DVD9 -> DVD5 for movies that will fit on one disc if the extras are removed or compressed. It is easy to use and very fast. And I have a utility that will convert its image files to ISOs burnable by DVD Decrypter.

DVD-X-Copy sometimes breaks episode DVDs, causing the playback to hault between the opening credits and the begining of the episode. This is anoying, but all I have to do is press play again at this point.

Eventually I will probably want to learn how to read and edit IFOs to detect and correct such mistakes. Other than that I think I have all the tools I need at this point.
