  1. Hello,

Reading across the posts on this forum, I noticed that some people capture at full D1 resolutions, such as 720x480. I assume they do it for high quality reception, such as HDTV, but are there times when it improves (noticable, not theoretical) capture quality of VHS tapes?

    Thanks.

  2. no matter what you capture, the bigger the better !
if you capture at low resolution you will get less qulity, and
if you convert it the picture will look even worse.

so capture as big as you can, and then convert to what you like.
it doesnt matter what the source is.
i have tried it with a vhs, and it DOES look better when you capture
    at high resolution (much sharper).
try it yourself and see, capture a short clip and then watch it,
i think you will see a big change in qulity.

  3. I think HDTV is twice the size of a DV capture

1200*1024 or something so i guess DV1 is not as good

    Just a wild guess!

  4. Thanks!

When I capture at 640x480 in Virtualdub with huffyuv I get bad frame drops since its ~18000KB/s. I get much better performance at custom 500x500 setting. Is it okay to do this way (500x500) and will TMPGEnc treat those files right? Also, I will VERY appreciate comments/links on the following questions:

    1) Should I use filters during capture or after?
    2) Which filter can be used to remove flickering on the video?
    3) Does build in noise filter in Virutaldub with close to minimum setting is good enough to enfance input video?
    4) Are there any almost lossless/great for VHS, capture codecs?
