  1. i have tried sevral shareware and demo's now, but most don't recognize my dv camera(firewire)

What software can i use to capture dv->divx directly, instead of 1st getting the dv to the comp and then use VD to encode it?

  2. With DV you are transferring the video to the PC not capturing it, so as far as I know there is no way of doing this. Even if you were capturing an analogue signal, capturing directly to divx is not a great idea as it is very cpu intensive.

  3. AFAIK IUVCR is for analogue capture not DV transfer, although I have not used it in a long time.

  4. Well it is possible if you have the right hardware (ie a capture card with composite inputs). As far as I know most DV camcorders come with a an analogue adaptor to play through your TV and VCR. Just hook this up to your composite (red, white and yellow) connections on your capture card and you can then use Vdub (free) ,AV_IO or your prefered capture program to capture directly to divx (I prefer xvid but that's purely a matter of individual choice). I can capture at a maximum of 352*576 with very little dropped frames (1 per 1000) and the quality is very good.

However...........I do agree that this is not ideal and 'capturing' to DV via firewire is probably a better bet in the long run.

WinDV is a free application for this and it worked fine for me on the one time I tried it.

    Good luck
