?dvd player to play raw files?

i am fairly new to all of this but i am wondering if anybody knows of a stand alone dvd player that with play raw mpeg and/or raw avi's? or if there is any thing out there that can be made to read them?

any help would be greatly appriciatted.

I believe there are several Apex players that play raw mpeg files, like the 1200 for instance. There is a Kiss DVD player for Divx-Avi's.

My APEX 1000 and the APEX 1110w I bought my father will both play
raw MPEG files. However, they must be a width/height that all conventional DVD players recognize.
I tried to play a 640x480 MPEG file, and the display got screwy and twitchy.

As for AVI's, I have no idea.

i appreiciatte it. now that actually brings up another question. i was actually incorrevt in my wording.

when i said raw mpeg i actually meant a ***.mpg (video file) or is it fairly easy to convert to a ***.mpeg

maybe its because i am just starting to figure out how this stuff works but i have tried a couple conversion programs to convert a mpg file to some type of vcd but have not suceeded.

any suggestions on programs for dummies would help alot

When I first started, I used Nero Burning Rom. It's very, very easy. The quality is OK - not as good as using a separate program (like TMPGEnc, or CCE) to encode to .mpg, but watchable. Nero has a wizard that you can just drag and drop .avi files into, and it will convert them, then burn them. Even if you have an MPEG file that is not VCD complaint, it will take care of it for you. It takes about 5 minutes to set up, then in a few hours (depending on how long your video is) you've got a VCD. I used to set it up right before going to bed, then in the morning it'd be done.
