  1. I recently had windows me on my computer and I was able to rip at 6x with smartripper. I had DMA enabled and everything. I just swiched to Windows 2000 Pro and I can only rip at 1x. The dma mode is still set. I also have the locked file problem with smartripper but never had with me or 98. Could someone with windows 2000 using smartripper tell me how to get my speed back up and tell me the settings you used? Thanks

I'm using Win2K Pro w/SP2, a Pioneer 16x IDE DVD-ROM and SmartRipper 2.34. Before updating my ASPI-Layer I was unable to rip at all. Since updating it, I rip at an average 7x under Win2K.

Do you have the latest ASPI-Layer from Adaptec?
Have you run Adaptec's ASPICHK? What does it say?

Other than that, I havent changed ANY settings in SmartRipper from the default, and I have yet to have a single problem.

    ASPI: http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?filekey=aspi32.exe
    ASPICHK: http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?filekey=aspichk.exe

Both have "cautions" not to use either on Win2K but I havent had a problem (though I dont have/use EASYCD either .

  4. As HillJack says, the locking problem is definitely an ASPI issue. Another possibility would be to run ForceASPI (www.flexion.org).

Also, are you _really_ sure that DMA is turned on for your drives, because when doing a new install of W2K it probably isn't - at least that's what happened when I installed W2K. What is a bit confusing is that the place where you turn DMA on in W2K is not the same as in W98: You now need to look under both IDE-controllers in the device manager and make sure DMA is turned on there.
