ok here is a pic of what my cap looks like

im capturing with mmc7.7 to mjpeg at 19, with a res of 640x480. i have tried using vdub filters and avisynth. like 2d cleaner, cnr2, peachsmoother, snr, alot of smoothers, temp cleaners, temp smoothers. but still cant get rid of the grainy quality. and if i do alot of the show tends not to have alot of close ups. so every time i do get rid of the grain(but i never get rid of all of it), the faces and features become to blurred and undesirable, with some filters they tend to become distorted with an out of place blocky look. my intent is for it to be watched on tv. so i believe i dont have to dienterlace it if i have read the posts correctly, but any ideas on filters for vdub or avisynth would be greatly appreciated. if dienterlacing would help then i would be more than happy to do it, im trying for best quality not time but i would like to fit 43 min on one cd. i use tmpg to encode it to svcd then use the header trick.
ps. i have tried alot of those filters but combinations and settings would help. i now there are different types of noise hi low etc. so im not really sure of what type of filter i should be looking for. im willing to give anything a try. so thanks in advance for you help.
pps. is there a way to get a better looking cap. i noticed that huffy and mjpeg at 20 werent much better on my comp but took up like twice the space, well what r ur guys thoughts on this.

Try the noise filter in TMPGEnc at the default settings. It worked wonders for me, my capture looked very much like yours, and now it looks ALOT better.
The filter is painfully slow though... I was encoding a 1hr show minus ads (so about 45 minutes), this normally takes me about 25 minutes to encode to VCD, it took 4 and a half hours with the noise filter -
legionpc thanks for such a quick reply. i was just wondering what settings you used for tmpg and if you had any of the other settings running like dienterlace, sharpen, etc. also what was your cap, and what were you going to. thanks again for such a quick response. i will start trying some tests right now.

The noise filter settings I used were default (20, 1, 20). I had clip frame running as well to cut off the garbage on the sides. In Virtualdub I had Smart De-interlacer by Donald Graft running, frameserving into TMPGEnc. Capture was 720x576 Morgan MJPEG @ 90%, going to VCD.

I have recently found these settings to be very effective without distorting the picture. Capture using Virtual Dub enabling the noise filter and set the filter at 4 or 5 notches from the left, basically move the slider all the way to the left, then tap your right arrow key on your keyboard 4 or 5 times. Then after the capture is done, encode with TMPGEnc using the noise filter also, default settings 20/1/20. I have found this combination to be very effective. I also use the sharpen edge in TMPGEnc as well at 60/60, and enable field base. This tends to produce very good looking VHS conversion for me.
