Long mp3 file names - but how long? No-one knows....

but like a previous posting there on the same subject, there's been no response. So, as a total newbie trying to figger out what to buy and what it can do, I've turned up here with the same question: "I understand some DVD players accomodate 'log file names' for mp3s. I've been trying to find out what that means: what exactly is the maximum number of characters permissible?"

Someone must know! By all means reply on the audio forum - I'll check there too.

I don't know what the 'maximum' filename length is out there.. but I *DO KNOW* that when someone says 'long filename support' for a set-top DVD player they are usually referring to the neighborhood of 32 characters (b/c if it were longer than this there would have to be scrolling or something like that)... which, interestingly enough, many mp3 filenames exceed in length (but is much better than a crappy 8 character display).

If it's too long, it will get truncted. Hopefully the first part is informative (never is, usually Gendre/Band/Album Title then your outta space).

Hard number is 127(127 + . for 128) characters. Most will support less, 64 or 32 characters. Try it and see? My Apex does 16, so it's about worthless :P , although it navigates folders quite well.
