I have been trying to get Ulead MF to accept my TMPGnec MPEG2 clips, but it will not accept any audio. Ulead keeps telling me its an incorrect audio stream or something to that effect. I have tried ES audio/video and System audio/video and neither are accepted by Ulead MF. MPEG1,2 and PCI have also been tried. What is the common parameters for TMPGnec when converting for Ulead with sound? I really like DVDlab, but that program definetly wants you to do your own sound seperately. Is there a simple guide on how to encode your sound seperately, then merge it with your video? I am using TMPGnec instead of having Ulead MF to do my compessing.
Below is the reason im using TMPGnec. But the guide does not say much on what audio to use.
Taken from Guide:
Convert your videoclips to standard DVD MPEG using TMPGEnc or some other good DVD Encoder. You could let Ulead DVD Moviefactory convert your video to DVD MPEG, but it is a bit slow at encoding and the video quality may not be as good as other encoders.
Thanks,
Dominic

Actually, the quality of encoding in Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 is quite high if you know how to set the proper MPEG parameters.
I always recommend use of the Ulead MPEG.Now codec.
There's really no reason to rely on 3rd party encoders.

How about commenting on what the "proper MPEG parameters" are?

Usually I have the audio in a WAV file which I feed into TMPGEnc at the same time I am doing the video so I end up with a single mpeg file (filename.mpg) that has the MPEG1 or MPEG2 video muxed with the MP2 audio (I usually use 44.1K 224kbps for (S)VCD and 48k 384kbps for DVD).
I have no problems feeding a file like this into MF2
How are you encoding your audio? As in what program and what type of audio file etc.
Please note that MF2 will accept AC-3 audio if you first mux it with the video so you have a single mpeg file (filename.mpg)
This muxing can be done with TMPGEnc using the MPEG TOOLS section. When you import the mpeg file into MF2 you will get some sort of error about the sound (it doesn't officially support AC-3) but just ignore it. You won't have any sound in MF2 when you do a preview but it will pass it along to the final DVD recordable.
This should go without saying but make sure you check the option in MF2 that says something like this, "DO NOT RE-ENCODE DVD COMPLIANT VIDEO" and all should be fine

Where can I get information (how to) on "muxing can be done with TMPGEnc using the MPEG TOOLS section" part of your reply?
Thanks

Another thing you could try (folks with a good memory and/or sitting in front of MF2). There is a setting in preferences that has "do not convert". I believe that it would work for audio and video.
Anyway, go into guides and there is a help menu for converting one to the other... -
RE: Proper MPEG Parameters
What many users of DVD MovieFactory 2 overlook is that you can enable ADVANCED encoding options that give professionals significant new encoding power.
To enable these options on a Windows 2000 or Windows XP computer, simply click MY COMPUTER>C: DRIVE>DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS>ALL USERS>APPLICATION DATA>ULEAD SYSTEMS FOLDER>ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY FOLDER>2.01 FOLDER>DVDMF (INI FILE).
Then add ADVANCE=1 under the [VIODRIVER] heading.
Save the change.
Then reboot.
When you open Ulead DVD MovieFactory afterward, you will be able to enter the DISC TEMPLATE OPTIONS and click a new ADVANCED button that appears under the COMPRESSION tab to access a new array of custom encoding parameter choices.

I did the mentioned ini change and noticed the following
PlayAC3=0
DecodeAC3=0
UleadAC3Encode=0
If you change the ac3 peramiters will the program accept AC3 audio properly?

I've tested muxed files with AC-3 audio.
Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 and the standard version (non-AC-3) of DVD WORKSHOP accepts such material (even 6 channel) and burns it without re-encoding if one checks the DO NOT ENCODE COMPLIANT MPEG files box.
I'm in the process of running some further tests with elemental streams, but the testing is going to take me some time.

I tried the muxed AC3 file yesterday and it worked fine also. One question on the ini file change since I made the change you reccomended I have tried MF2 twice and it crashed twice. Never had a problem before. Any feedback on that problem?
Thanks

I tried this trick mentioned by Specialist "ADVANCE=1" and now I also have the advanced menu. Does MF2 automatically use MPEG.now or does it have to be enabled somewhere?
Specialist, what other tricks do you know? I have MF2 and VS7. -
The ADVANCED options are not enabled by default probably because the majority of customers shopping for authoring products are not MPEG encoding experts.
The Ulead MPEG.Now codec is used whether the ADVANCED encoding options are enabled or not.
But the ADVANCED options - when enabled and used properly - give the user the opportunity to get the best encoding result possible.
Many customers - perhaps the majority - prefer Wizard-driven MPEG encoding.
These types of customers don't wish to invest a lot of time experimenting to find the absolute best settings for a given video segment.
For more experienced users, however, the option to enable these advanced encoding parameters still exists.

Damn, Specialist, where did you find this stuff (please don't say MF2 website or I'll feel like a moron). Is there a site or something that gives hints like this for enhancing software????
-
Macleod,
Unfortunately, many powerful features like this are not well documented.
I'm going to slowly attempt to do my part - as a user of the software - to write more tutorials and - hopefully - improve communication.
By the way, the ADVANCED encoding options can also be enabled in ULEAD VideoStudio, ULEAD MediaStudio Pro, and Ulead DVD WORKSHOP.
MPEG encoding is a complex subject, but without documentation it's even worse.
Unfortunately pressing the Help button in the MPEG.now Advanced menu brings up nothing.
Also troublesome is that some feature names are not standard between various encoders, causing no small degree of confusion for those used to other encoders like TMPGEnc.
In spite of the lack of documentation, Mark Bailey of Main Concept has helped us out by making us aware of a PDF file (zipped) located here:

Hope this helps.
