  1. are there any players that auto-play (S)VCD and CVD without having to screw around with PBC. I have a govideo DVP853 and i have to fidget with the PBC options everytime i put in a SVCD or CVD disc. this only happpens with my home-made discs. all other factory pressed discs or copies of factory pressed discs don't do this, so back to my question:

are there any players that auto-play (S)VCD and CVD without having to screw around with PBC.

My Apex 5131 does. It autoplays everything and holds 3 cds to boot.

I also own a Go Video DVP853 and I also burn and play VCDs. I burn with Nero Express and have had no problem with auto play, PBC, search, stop. etc. Have had some problems with VCDs burned with Roxio Easy CD Creator, but not with Nero. As far as I know this works with VCDs. Have not tried to burn or play SVDC or CDV (Nero doesn't support CDV format)I hope this helps.

  4. I download svcd and vcd cue bin files that are over 700mb and still burn to my 700 mb CD-Rs. What I want to know is why these have more of a problem playing than the ones under or approximately at the advertised data capacity.

AFAIK, you can write to a cd in various different modes, some with error correction and some without.. S/VCD's are written in a form that doesnt use error correction because mpg files contain a bit of redundancy anyway. Because you dont need to stroe info for error correction you can squeze up to 740 Mb , and 800MB (i think) on a 74min and a 80min cd (respectively).
Maybe the player is missreading and unable to resume without the error correction.
    Best wishes, Barrie

(Im now off to see what a CDV is)
