  1. All set to go buy the TDK 440 duel format burner when I read Costco is selling the Cendyne duel format for only US238.00, so getting ready to pruchase that one and read the Pioneer A06 will be out next month!!!! Now my head hurts. What to do?

TDK and Cendyne duel writers are so new I've not read any reviews.
    Anybody have any thoughts?

  4. My head hurts, too. In my thread I am trying to find out which one to buy.

I am thinking about buying the A06, but it will cost $330 in the beginning. A good price. Despite that u can get the A05 OEM for $198. I guess I wait over sommer what the A06 is like....if it isnt any good I buy the A05 and thats it. [/url]

Wait for A06 if you TRULY need both + and - formats. Otherwise, just get a good - drive (Pioneer 105) or a good + drive (TDK?).
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

Why do you say the NEC isn't good?

Where did you get this info from? I'd like to learn more.

    Thanks!

  10. basically the NEC burners dont accept quite any of the cheap media...if u look at the dvd media list. Therefore u can only buy the expensive ones and they wont work for 100% sure either. Someone else, who has the NEC 1300a, told me that the drive rejected all cheaps one he bought and with the first burn on a Maxell DVD there were two errors...i guess that is fair enough to say that the NEC is no use.

So what about the A06 again

most Cendyne DVD-R/RW owners have confirmed that their's is a Pioneer (take a look at Cendynes firware download site for DVD-RWs).

could be the dual format drive might be from another manufacturer, though, probably a Verbatim (a Mitsubishi company) based on their more recent press releases, which for $239 (internal drive) from Costco ain't such a bad deal.

  12. the DVD-RW drive by cendyne IS a Pioneer

Officila press releases from Cendyne tell us it's a Verbatim... and the Verbaim drive is just a rebadged NEC drive...

so NEC = Verbatim = Cendyne

IF the firmware is different, it could be better than the NEc drive.

Cendyne = rebadged Verbatim = rebadged NEC?

my sources tell me, for example, that the Verbatim DVD+R/RW is actually a Ricoh - no mention of NEC anywhere.

    (anybody confused yet?)

We talk about the MULTI-FORMAT drive and not the +RW drive

understood - my points were that:

    1) a Verbatim DVD+R/RW is a rebadged Ricoh
    2) a Cendyne DVD-R/RW is a rebadged Pioneer
    3) press releases confirm that Verbatim will be supplying the dual format drive to Cendyne

I just don't see the connection between NEC and Verbatim.

  16. How is the Verbatim 2.4x2.4x8x DVD+R/RW Drive.
Staples is selling it for $130 Shipped. $160-$30 off.

  17. Verbatim is as good as the NEC....and it is the NEC....so it is no use

  18. I was interesting in that Staples deal as well. I like this site:
    http://www.dvdplusrw.org

They show the Verbatim uses the NEC engine, which is considered... junk?

I have one of those Sony DRX500 on ultra-never-know-when-it-will-ship-back-order from CDWG for my work, that I wanted to try out first before buying something of my own.

So, stay away from the NEC engine-based drives? (Buslink, HP, Iomega, Plextor, TDK, Verbatim)?
