Hello! I plan on capturing from my minidv camcorder using Studio 8.5 and was wondering which format to use during capture?

    1. AVI
    2. DV
    3. MPEG2

I plan on then burning it onto DVD with menus, etc. after editing with Studio 8.

I have a 120G hard drive as my capture drive so I have plenty of room. If I should capture using DV or AVI, would Studio 8 convert either one over to MPEG2 when it is time to burn using it's own converter?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or feedback as this is confusing me!
    Thanks and regards,

  2. Capture in DV format, this will give you the best result when capturing.
you can use Studio to do your entire DVD process, Caputre > Edit > Autor DVD > Render > Burn. the Redering step in Studio takes a long time so make sure you have your menus and any editing done exactly the way you want it.
another option would be to capture using Studio8 and Edit and ouput back to AVI format, then use an external encoder and separate application for Autoring the DVD.
    my method of madness=
Capture in Studio8 & Edit (if needed)
encode with Tmpgenc for video and Besweet for AC3 audio
    author with DVDLab
    good luck.

Thanks for the response. One more question. I have S8 loaded on my C drive and my D drive is my capture drive. Do I load the S8 application on my C drive and point the capture drive to D or load the application onto my capture drive? I was always confused since if loaded on D drive for everything, I wouldn't have to worry about pointing it over to another drive. Please advise. Thanks!

No, the way you have it (Studio on C:, captured output on D is just fine. That allows the application and operating system to do any swapping it needs, and it won't impact storage captured output.
