    Hi,

I was wondering what are some good editing programs that will get rid of silent spots, remove words, for example is there is a .mp3 that has a bad word how would I get rid of the bad word with the .mp3 still good quality, and also increase volume, and do all of this at the same bitrate? Please and thank you.

Ghtpua, you might want to check out Cool Edit Pro or Cool Edit 2000 from Syntrillium Software. I've been using CE2000 for a while now and I love it.

For some of those things the software will pretty much have to decompress the MP3 to modify the audio and then recompress, so there will always be some loss of quality. If you use a program with a good MP3 compressor the quality loss will be minimal, though.

If you use Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) you can use LAME to handle the MP3 compression. Audacity and lame are both free, so it won't cost you anything to try it.

  4. Use MP3Gain to adjust volume(better than normalize)

and Audacity to edit and merge.
