  1. Hi,

I have tried using Avidemux with little success as I can't figure out how to edit out parts of the original file. Yes I know that you can select an area using the A[ & B] but once I remove the piece I don't want, the remaining file doesn't want to play.

I am not trying to do anything fancy with the .flv's just edit out parts that I don't want.

Maybe there is something similar but less complicated than Avidemux? Previously I used " Free Video Dub" to edit an .mpg and it worked perfectly and was easy to understand. Of course it won't work on an .flv.

NB: NOW after this post I see a reference to VirtualDub.... hope it's easier than the first one!

    Regards,

    J T

You can't really edit FLV without reencode.
The programs that promise FLV editing all seem to reencode (with or without your knowledge).
    It's a distribution format -- not a format meant to be re-edited.

    Virtualdub with the FLV plugin.

Direct Stream Copy VP6 to AVI and use Super to copy to FLV container.

Direct Stream Copy or Smart Render H264.FLV to AVI and use Super, MKVmerge or Yamb/MyMP4Box to mux to MKV or MP4 container.

  4. Thanks everyone, I never realized that editing an .flv was such a pain. These are files that really don't need to be trimmed, I'll take the easy way out and leave them as is. I don't look at them all the time anyway.

Best regards to you both thanks!

I've seen all of these methods screw up the FLV.

There is a program called FLV Editor Lite that does edit FLV files pretty well and it's free!
You have to learn the program and it has some limitations, but it works.
I have used this program to edit a FLV file and it worked after editing in VLC player
I think the file is indeed re encoded, but if it works
You can find the program here: http://www.exp-flv.com/

    Maybe this wil help you

Works fine for me. Then again, FLV are usually screwed up anyway. Between supercompressed video to nellymoser audio.

H264.flv are just MP4/MKV in an FLV container.
