  1. Hey guys, I've been using DVD Workshop to author ny DVD's, as it seems that it's the only program out there that does what I want.(except maestro, but I haven't tried it yet). I think I have it 90% figured out, but i'm still unsure on a couple of things.
All I want is to take an mpeg file, create a menu with motion buttons, be able to put the buttons where I want instead of using a set template, and add backround images and music. And maybe in some instances have a short intro play before the menu. Oh, and also add chapters with chapter selection menu's and buttons. Pretty simple, nothing too fancy here.
Now, this is what i've been doing:

1.Load the mpeg video file(for testing purposes, a small 352x240 mpeg from a vcd)

    2. Load the background image for the menu.

    3. Create 20-second audio-only clips in tmpegenc to use as the motion buttons. (I merge the clips into a single 60-sec clip per the guide on this site to match the length of my background audio)

4.Add those files to workshop, and drag+drop them onto the menu in the correct position I want them.

    5.Add my background audio.

    6.Finish.

Now here's my questions. When I go to make a disc, workshop gives me a list of templates to choose from for what I assume is reencoding. But the list of templates is all the templates that I have created for tmpegenc! Are workshop and tmpegenc connected in some way?
I chose the template that I created for tmpeg to make a dvd-compliant 352x240 video. The resulting vob from ulead is only a meg or two larger than teh source file, so I assume it did NOT reencode the vide and only the audio, which was exactly what I wanted.

My other question is, I haven't figured out quite how to do chapters with workshop. I feel dumb, but even though I did pretty good figuring the rest out, this one part escapes me. Can anyone help me with this?

So am I on the right track here? Or am I screwing up royally somewhere? If you have any comments or suggestion, they are ALL appreciated! Thanks.

  2. Select 'Edit'. You'll see a film-like icon below the 'Edit'. Click it and you will see a long film on the right-hand side of the screen. There are the chapters icons that you will select and place. The first chapter icon starting at the beginning of the file has been selected for you.
Play you file and stop where you want to add chapters (or fill in the time at the prescribed space). On the middle of the left-hand side of the screen, you will find the 'add chapter' icon, click it and that is it.
Hope you can figure out how.

  3. All right, cool. I can't believe I missed that. Thank you.

Oh, and about that tmpegenc being related to workshop Q I aksed earlier? Nevermind. I was just getting confused having played with a bunch of authoring programs recently. I realize now that the two programs have similar templates, and ones I created were similar to the ones I made for tmpegenc. Oh well, my brain wasn't working when I asked that I guess.

Now, off to work on menu's and chapters....
