If I want to capture video tape and encode for DVD, should I encode MPEG1 or 2, also, if MPEG1, do I use 48khz for audio?

MPEG2 is best, you can absolutely used MPEG1 is desired.
DVD specs for MPEG1 are 352x240 (no more, no less), at 1150k min to 1856k max bitrates, CBR only, wth 48hz sound. If you start with degraded source and want to fit a lot on a disc, this will yield excellent results (little more than high quality VCD on a DVD disc).
Otherwise, use MPEG2 for best quality results.I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
