I suspect this is a dumb-ass question but here goes.
If I use something like DVDx to copy a DVD to (s)VCD, will I still get 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound?
Thanks.

Baldrick is 100% correct but some DVD players
can accept "x" formats like mini dvd or are able to
accept indvidual mpeg or Vob files as DVD playable.
I have been sucessfully making xSVCD movies with full
Dolby Digital Surround 5.1 for over a year now. All movies
are run at CVD res. to allow for the higher bitrate consumed
by DD and are spanned across 3 CD's to enable enough bandwidth
for HQ video. There are a number of methods you can
use to keep the DD track, but I mostly use DVD2SVCD
to simplify the process. -
Offline could you give some infos to which method you use to keep the DD track.
