  1. Does anyone know where I can get the Sony DRU-510?

I recently ordered from a web site a drive that was listed as the Sony DRU-510. I just received it today and the drive does not say Sony on the front but on top it says Sony DW-U10A. I was puzzled but did notice it has a recent manufacturer date (April 21, 2003) and I have never received something that new. I then researched on the net and found out that the Sony DW-U10A is a DRU500, not a DRU510. Is that correct?

As well, if I wait for the DRU510 and return this drive what do I gain? For one I get 4X DVD+RW. This would be important to me since I use DVD+RW for backup purposes. I see I also go from 8x to 12x DVD Read speed which isn't a big deal since I have a separate DVD-ROM that's 16x. Is there any other difference besides these two?

Also, if I do choose to just want the DRU500 and not the 510 will it be any problem with me just having the DW-U10A. I have heard the DW-U10A has different firmware than the DRU500 and even that it's a way to make it a DRU500. My concern is that this slight difference will cause problems (such as future incompatibility with newer firmware, etc).

  2. DW-U10A is equivalent to that of the DRU-500A not DRU-510A which is not on the market yet. Even though both of the drives are physically identical the firmware is different. DRU-500A has firmware updates while it is next to impossible to get a firmware update for DW-U10A unless it is a hack version which too is hard to find and unrealiable to use. The only difference with DRU-510A is 4x DVD+RW write while the other specs remains the same.
