When I encode VCDs using TMPEG, I put them in my standalone DVD player which has it PAL/NTSC setup switched to 'AUTO'. The player then selects the correct option and the VCDs always play correctly automaticly.
But, I have downloaded a VCD from the binary newsgroups and I need to manually set my DVD player to either PAL or NTSC.
Now, I wondered if encoding in TMPEG inserts a little something that tells the plauyer what whether it is PAL or NTSC.
Anyone everr heard of this?
Cheers!

The MPEG header includes information about the framerate and resolution, both of which are suitable for determining the video system used on the disc.

Oh, so does this mean the person who encoded the VCD MPEG used a different encoder which probably did not use the header?
Do all standalone use this header section to determine the type of playback if it is PAL or NTSC.

Hi
Trying to decode this
When you downloaded the VCD was it an ISO file, which you used to make a VCD with ?.
The person who made it, would have made a NTSC or PAL, if your stand alone player supports both then it will play either, but will you TV ?
Or will the player output Pal from a NTSC VCD ? -

All encoders will (or should) create an appropriate header to the MPEG. Otherwise, no playback mechanism, hardware or software, will know how to interpret it.

They should. I don't know how they would determine it otherwise, short of magical divination.
I think the most important issue here is that you probably don't need to do anything different with your downloaded VCD than you would with any other. If your player autodetects, it should do the same for the downloaded VCD.
