Things you should do before encoding:

Check if the Avi plays OK on your pc.

Scan and remove bad frames using Virtualdub.

Strip the audio into a wav file, use that as the audio source when encoding.

Do a 2 minute test encode to check for sync.

If you need help with any of the above just ask.

    Thanks for your reply,

I didn't think i was real thick but im quickly finding out i am!!

Since my post, i did what you said found a guide and saved the audio to wave using virt dub,

As for the bad frames I've read and re-read how to fix of them using virt dub freeze??

But I can't even find the program let alone use it, I keep downloading version 1.5.1, so i'm not doing to well.

When i load most of my movies i always get that vbr , skew warning thing.

    I'll carry on looking!!

    Cheers again

VDub-MP3 is available here: http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/virtualdub.html Scroll down the page just over half way.

Make sure you remove the bad frames before stripping out the wav file.

    Good luck! 8)

  5. also sometimes encoding avi to tmpgenc, the avi need to be decompressed 1st.e.g if you load the avi into virual dub and you get an error it means that ita not happy with the way its encoded, which is something to do with the sound

i decompress mine 1st, then using vdub strips sound and save as wav file , then in tmpgenc load the uncompressed avi fil into the video bit then the saved wav into the audio bit in wizard and go from there
