I finally did it.
I made an SVCD and it works great.
I am using DVD2SVCD and a registered copy of TMPGEnc.
One problem though is it took 22 hrs. That seems like a long time.
I just used all the standard setting to get an MPEG2 SVCD.
Could someone suggest some setting to maybe speed it up a little.
P.S.
I do want to thank all the people on this site for the time and help I recieved.
Doing a DVD backup sure isnt a slam dunk. There was a whole lot of stuff to learn before I even got a basic understanding of what I was getting into.

22 hours? sounds like you either have a really slow computer or someone's playing graphic intenstive game on your PC. What is your computer's like? (CPU type, speed, etc)
-
that time sounds about right for a computer around 1ghz with pc133 memory and you have the highest quality settings. The only way to increase the speed is 1. buy a faster computer with ddr memory or 2. switch to dvd2svcd and CCE encoder. The cce encoder will cut the time in half with quality just as good if not better.

It largely depends on what the speed of your CPU is. Like dbecker said, if you are running a 1ghz CPU that is probably about right. If by chance you are using "Highest Quality" motion search precision in TMPGenc, if you drop it down to "High Quality" that will save you a few hours.

Thanks for the tips.
I am learning fast.
I was using the higher quality motion setting.
I also have a 1.8 and 512 ddr ram.
I lowered the quality to normal on my next backup and the time was cut in half. -
To all, Why are some people posting times of 22 hours to do 2 hours with TMPGenc OR CCE, and others telling people they do it in 45, maybe 50 minutes, for 2 hour video? I used to use DVDx, this is not an endorsement, and got an XVCD, 2300 kbps, in 3 to 4 hours, fairly good quality. I now use DVD2SVCD, both TMPGenc, and CCE 2.66, and the best I can do is 10 to 12 hours. Am I doing something seriously wrong? My video machine is AMD 1800XP+, 512 RAM, etc. Why am I taking 15 to 20 times longer?

p4-1,7/512rimm/120gbHitachi-udma100
dvd2xvcd 90min movie (d2v) in tmpg from 2h to 3h
tmpg without filters /fast motion using kvcd(120min in 1cd but 100%quality) and only video encode
using dvd2avi and avs script w/5~7 filters(unfilter;nomosmoth;fluxsmooth;legalclip; blockbuster;...) the same movie and settings as above it takes from 3h30min to 8h (still don't no why the 8h?)
