Hello all...newbie here
Using DVD2ONEX but have a quick question. When chosing "movie only" mode...which audio track should I select? I assume it would be the AC3 6CH, but there are other English tracks avaialble, ie. AC3 2CH..and at times there are more than one of these! Again I assume I would only need the one that goes with the main movie. Is there anyway of finding out what each track is before I use DTOX to compress it? (Just did Full Metal Jacket and it only had 2 tracks...an English and a French AC3 2CH... so that one was easy)
Thanks in advance

I recently did a movie and encoded it with each of the audio tracks just to find out which one was for me. I found that on all the disks I've done so far that the 6 channel ac3 audio file was what I was looking for.

Thanks tgpo!!
DVD2ONEX has been working great for me....Movie Only mode seems to give me the best quality since there is less data to compress. For me..I hardly ever even look at the Extra's and or Directors comments etc, and really never have a use for the subtitiles.

I have been using the first AC3 6 Channel English one. That seems to be right in almost every case (if you speak English). I also downloaded a player so i can test the VOB files before i waste my time burning. Hope this helps.

When you play a DVD in Apple DVD Player, hit Control+I to get info on the audio track, subtitles, and exactly which DVD track the movie is in. Selecting the right audio track and subtitles is easier when you can see what a DVD player sees (especially when the disk authoring was messy and everything was labelled "English").

What AntnyMD said. Excellent advice.
There are a couple different kinds of audio tracks that can be on a DVD -- check the back of your box, too, for more info.
For example, some older movies have a mono audio track, but that'll still appear on our DVD software as 2-channel.
In simplest terms:
Two-channel (2CH) means basic stereo: a left channel and right channel.
6CH or 5.1 means a surround-sound audio that will sound fuller and more dimensional on some TV sets that can translate those different channels. Pop the original disk in your set-top and experiment with the different sound options. Also check your TVs set-up -- it may have a surround-sound option that you might not have checked before.
As mentioned above, 6CH or 5.1 Dolby will play just fine on a basic TV set.
DTS is a special audio signal that requires special equipment to translate. If you have a disk with DTS and choose that as the audio option, you'll probably hear nothing when you play it -- unless of course you have the DTS system installed at your pad... -
This thread was so informative, and I also have a question.
I made two DVD's trying to decide if I noticed a difference in quality of MOVIE vs DISK. The disk plays perfectly. When I play the MOVIE only version, I get the 5.1 sound, but the SUBTITLES are ON by default. They dont even show up or are accesible, when I played the DVD player on the Mac. I can turn them off, but would rather not see them by default. Did I choose the wrong option in DVD2ONEx? I maybe I will check and see what I did.
Also on the Movie version, I get a slight freeze between the opening scene and the Title that gets flashed on the screen.
Anyway, Thanks...
oh, on another movie, I used DVD2ONE to make just the movie and I choose all of the Audio Tracks.. I couldnt see how Apple DVD could be used to choose another track, so I used vlc. Why, when I am watching the movie with the DIRECTORS comments, and I hit the Rt Arrow key to go to the next chapter, does the AUDIO track go to the regular Audio track , and go off of the DIRECTORS comments. Any idea?? -
Hmm. I don't know the answer about VLC and the arrow key.
However, in Apple's DVDPlayer, are you able to bring up the control panel (try Control-C if not)? On the far right are three dots, next to the TITLE button. Click these to extend an additional control panel.
The AUDIO button is a dot with "sound waves" or something around it. Click that to change audio tracks. -
Thanks for the suggesting. Yes those 3 dots, do give more control, and I can now change to the directors audio, but using it.
I love this...
Thanks
