  1. I just want to confirm the following...

Is the 2nd selection under DVD in TMPGEnc Plus (NTSC - low resolution) the proper selection for converting any audio/video file to a VCD compatable file for DVDs?

Actually that is not the way I would do it.
You don't need (or really want) to re-encode the video as that will only reduce quality. MPEG1 encoded to VCD specs is part of the DVD specificaions PROVIDED you convert the audio to 48kHz. So all you need to convert is the Audio.

If you use DVD Workshop 1.3 and check the box that says only convert where necessary (and choose template with higher bit-rate than VCD), then you don't need to do anything. It will leave the video as is and only convert the audio.

See Baldrick's guide for another way using Movie Factory. It also details how to extract VCD video properly with ISOBuster:
    https://www.videohelp.com/vcddvdr.htm

If you insist upon converting using TMPEnc, I would do the following:
    - Demux (via MPEG Tools on file pulldown)
    - Convert the audio stream from 44.1kHz to 48kHz (by creating new Project if you wish to use TMPEnc, not via existing template - otherwise use something like BeSweet)
    - Remux (if you then plan to use a friendly package to author, otherwise leave demux'd if you intend to use DVD Maestro/Scenarist type package)

Doom9 also have a SVCD to DVD guide which shows screen images for the technical parts I have mentioned (ie. Demux and Re-encoding audio):
    http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/svcd2dvdr.htm
The glass is neither half-full, nor half-empty.
It is simply twice as big as it needs to be.

  3. Thanks for the response.

I understand about lower quality in VCD. But lets just say I have digital video that I captured from my miniDV camcorder and I want to put a ton of video on a DVD. Would that be the proper selection in TPMGEnc? I would then have to patch after I author the video right?

    Also...

I just read Doom9's guide to (S)VCD -> DVD. I have a few questions about patching and soem other things.

    1. Do you have to patch your VCD quality MPG to 720 for it to read it properly?

    2. What does a SVCD have to be patched to? 352 or 720? and the entire file right? To be safe.

    3. After authoring my (S)VCD-DVD, I have to output to the video and audio folders to patch back to original resolution. What do I use to "unpatch" after authoring? DVDPatcher?

    4. I can use any program to author a (S)VCD-DVD, just as long as I patch after I author. Is this true?

    5. What is better to use and why, ac3 or mp2? What should I use in (S)VCD-DVDs and normal quality DVDs.

    Sorry for so many questions!

  4. One more question...

Can I use ChrissyBoy's (S)VCD2DVD program to convert the audio to 48kHz and patch the whole file for recognition in any authoring software? If I do this, I have to patch the files before burning so that the DVD player recognizes the video files correctly.

If this is true, then I think that I am getting this.

The nly problem now is actually doing it.
