  1. have created a homemovie with ATI all in wonder card in dvd format.
    No problems with audio.

I then frame served the mpg file from virtdub to TMPGEnc to get the file to on dvd size.
    No problems with audio.

I then used ulead moviefactory 2.0 to create chapters and put some extra pictures on the dvd and burn it.

Plays fine on PC but no audio on my home DVD player (actually I get about 1/2 second of audio).

    Any ideas?

  2. What player is it?.

Have you burned movies before which have worked ?. If so have you changed anything since ?

  3. I have a JVC XVS40 DVD player. I have copied DVDs with no problem but this is my first home video to DVD that I have done. I also have done home video to VCD (standard CD burner) but did not like the quality. Sound was good Video was bad. I have not changed anything since I burned my copied DVD.

  4. Assuming you don't have a PAL player then it's likely you didn't use PCM audio (for NTSC one of the audio tracks has to be PCM or AC3 -- MF doesn't support AC3 so you're stuck with PCM).

I suspect you used MPEG audio, which works on computers and PAL standalones. I don't remember offhand how MF works but I think it *can* convert your audio to PCM (look it up in the help file) -- I don't think it will by default do this.

I know -- this isn't too helpful in terms of specifics but at least you can start thinking in this direction (namely, how to get your audio to PCM).

I didn't know about that NTSC limitation! does anyone know the reasoning behind that one and whther it actually applies to NTSC titles, or NTSC players? (i.e. could a multiformat DVD player play a PAL disc with layer2 audio only?)
Surely MF wouldn't let you author it if it was out of the spec?

    Yep. Ditto what mkelley said.

Only difference is that I have seen the same symptoms on my sisters PAL (Teac - Model=?) player. Need to use AC3 or LPCM for those little babies.

  7. Here are the settings that I used in MF.

    MPEG files
    24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
    (DVD-NTSC)
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
    LPCM Audio, 48 KHz, Stereo

I think that I am going to capture shorter video clip so I don't have use TMPGEnc. I will just capture and use MF to burn.

I did try letting MF create DVD folders and I tried burning with nero but that produced the same result.

If anyone has any other ideas I would not mind trying them.
