How are you hooking up the sound from your VCR or Camera? I use a cable with an adapter. Don't care how you do it but you need sound going into the line-in jack of your sound card. I unplug the short cable going to the TV Tuner from the sound card line in jack. I use this method for VCR capturing. My camera has firewire. If you have your sound hooked up this way check your mixer and make sure it hasn't become muted. Some programs have a funny way of turning things off. Let me know.

There are two parts to the WINDOWS MIXER

everyones' familiar with the multi slider PLAY CONTROLS.
one slider for each thing on your computer to lissen to.. EASY!
then there the hiden RECORDING secion..
Accesed by clicking on PROPERTIES of the MIXER,
    changing the play mixer
The hidden recording console contains the CHECKMARK on each slider.
ONLY if the SLIDER MARKED LINE-IN is checked will it be "selected" end as a source to record from..
This may be all you need to do, if in fact you have a special audio cable going alongside your S-VIDEO feed to the pinnacle card..
NOTE THAT THE LINE IN is on the AUDIO CARD or AUDIO PORTION of the MOTHER BOARD..not on the PINNACLE CARD as its audio is only from the tuner and must also go to the sytem LINE-IN when you switch to TV RECORING

    Go to START>ALLPROGRAMS>ACCESSORY>ENTERTAINMENT

    and launch
    VOLUME CONTROL

DO IT AGAIN..Now you have two on screen..
CONVERT one of these mixers to a recording console
by going OPTIONS>PROPERTIES>RECODING on one of the MIXERS

    then follow my instructions above
IF YOU HAVE THE CONTROL IN QUSTION ("LINE IN") in your MIXER
