SHould I just give up on this DVD player?

I'm playing with making some VCDs because I don't have a DVD burner. I've tried about 4 or 5 brands of CDRs (whatever I had layign around) and nothing worked. But people said it works better with CDRWs. So I tried a Philips CDRW and that also didn't work. Everything just spins for a bit and gives the old "No Disc" message.

I don't want to buy expensive CDs because this is just playing for fun. Is there any hope or anything I can do to make them more compatible with this DVD player? It works great for actual DVD movies and such but just not VCDs that I create on CDRs or CDRWs.

    Thanks.

  3. May I suggest using only SILVER type CDR's if any, or CDRW's for sure have silver write surfaces like the Memorex Platinum CDRW, or the Lite-On CDRW which also have silver write surface.

It's a known fact that Sony dvd players are intentionally very finicky with certain media, but the silver stuff works great everytime for VCD, and even for music CD's written on CDRW disks, even though its not suppossed to be able to play burned CD music made by yourself. I've done it with no problems on silver media. However, the blue, green, or whatever other media NEVER work as well as the silver ones do.

  4. My dad had ne of these. ONLY accepted CDRWs. NO CDRs would ever work for me. Also, NO SVCDs. BUT it did allow XVCDs with high bitrates - 3000k or so.

The newer Sonys (my dad has a single, I have a changer, both progressive scan machines) read damn near anything.

  6. Are you sure that the VCDs you are making are valid VCD format? Have you tried them in someone else player to make sure they do work? I have a friend who has this player and he has not had any problems with the VCDs I've given him on CD-RWs (generic brand).
