Hi
I'll ask this in a fresh thread as no one is answering in the other one.
Which of the main encoders out there (eg mainconcept and CCE) can use MPG as it's source??
I currently use TMPGEnc. With my source being Mpeg2 720 x 576 Pal 8000 bitrate.
Please recommend encoders that can utilise mpg as it's source.
Cheers

hi Fozzee,
If you're having trouble w/ opening MPEG-2 clips under TMPG, you only
need to any one of these:
MPEG-2 --> DVD2AVI(d2v.file) --> TMPG
MPEG-2 --> DVD2AVI(d2v.file) --> VFAPI(vfapi.file) --> TMPG
MPEG-2 --> DVD2AVI(d2v.file) --> VFAPI(vfapi.file) --> VDUB --> TMPG
MPEG-2 --> AVIsynth(avs.file) --> TMPG
and maybe a few more alternate routes. No need to resort to other MPEG
encoders.

Hi
I have no problem using TMPGEnc thanks.
I was just going to dabble with other encoders to see the comparible results.
So I was just wanting to know which ones could use MPG as their source.
Thanks anyway.

oh, ok then.
But, weather they can or not, the above still applies (I think)

DVDx 2.2 can open mpgs. Also although I don't believe cce or mainconcept can open mpg files, you may be able to use fake avi files created via the aviproxy method. You can open mpg files in virtual dub mod or virtual dub mpg2. Turn on the avi proxy setting and then when you start the frame server save the film with an avi extension instead of a vdr extension. It may be possible for you to load the avi files into cce or mainconcept using this method. Never tried it myself but it sounds logical to me. Let me know if you try it and what the results are.

The excellent mainconcept encoder can certainly open *.mpg files as source as well as canopus procoder and tmpgenc. CCE unfortunately only opens avi files. If you want to go with a encoder for mpg source then go for mainconcept 1.3.1 as it is lightning fast at encoding.

It is somewhat of a misconception it seems to me that CCE will only accept .avi files. You can run a MPEG-2 stream through DVD2AVI to obtain a .d2v then it becomes very versatile. If you wanted to experiment CCE you can now frameserve it to CCE by way of either avisynth, VirtualDub or VFAPIConv. Having that said I think TMPGEncPlus is one of the best encoders on the market even before you factor in the price contrast.

CCE will accept AVI, and frameserved files, meaning it will accept whatever you can serve up to it.

Is Mainconcept 1.3.01.00 the same as 1.3.1??
And what have people found to be the best advanced settings to encode to 1/2 DVD Pal 352 x 576 2520 bitrate 48hz audio.
Cheers

In which encoder? Everyone's been touching a bit on a few of them...
