AutoGK is a simple to use, high quality batch encoder for Divx/Xvid output. I use it to create Divx files from digital broadcast mpeg streams. I batch up a seasons worth of shows and let them run through to completion.

Xvid4PSP encodes many formats to many formats, and has many device presets (standalones, consoles, players etc), as well as a large range of filters avisynth tricks built-in. Great for encoding to/from formats such as mkv, mp4 etc.

AVI Demux is a solid linear editor with a good range of filters, which happily reads VOBs, mkvs and other formats, and outputs pretty much anything that ffmpeg can.

avi.Net has to be best one for me, simple, batch function, subs etc, AutoGK is also a good choice.

from one "odd" video format to avi i use Avanti
I love it when a plan comes together!
