I don't like the fact that DVD shrink does not let you add menus. Why is it even an option if you can't add them in? I am new to this authoring thing. I used to just back up the movie only without the menus. I heard that there is a way to use Ifoedit with DVD shrink to get the menus. Can someone explain how to do this. And if you would in good detail? I don't use Ifoedit a lot. Only when authoring....

    Thanks, for everything.

    This site ROCKS!!

  2. You lost me because of the ten or so backups I have made with DVDshrink all of them have the menu intact.

    Yes they work for me.

  5. I use DVDSHRINK and if you use the encode function, you get everything. You just have to use a level that is smaller than 4.38gig.

True that. I have been lately playing with the custom level compression to get the lowest possible compresion ratio on the main movie (usually level 2 or 3) and as close to 4.38GB as possible. That may require reducing some of the extras to still pictures but the menu always works in the end.

Try using SmartRipper first http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/smartripper.cfm . Just rip to a VIDEO_TS folder which you create on your hard drive then direct DVDshrink to that folder. Here is another free ripper if SmartRipper has problems http://www.dvddecrypter.com/

Hmm also try downloading and running ForceASPI that may fix your problem. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/frcaspi.cfm

    Yes they work for me.

How do you get them to work, I tried it a few times never works, When I do it I pick all the start up menu's 's and the movie after that then I encode, then I have the menu's but when I click on the chapters choice's or to play the movie nothing happens, how did you get it to work?

I don't do anything. I just did a movie tonight with DVDshrink and all I did was make some custom adjustments in the compression levels for the extras on the DVD. Are you sure you're ripping all the files on the original? What I do is first rip all the files with SmartRipper then run DVDshrink.

  14. I copied BlackHawk Down with menu and I got the menu but no pointer (meaning I can't navigate)

Don;t know if this is an isolated incident or DVDShrink's handling of menu is buggy.

This prog has a lot of potential. The compression ratio needs to be like IC7 and once it's implemented you probably don;t need anything else but this prog
