Well ive been working on a copy of a dvd movie, and all of a sudden my dvd rw drive stops working. thsi is what happens
When it has anytype of cd or dvd media in it and the computer is starting up it will crash (comp will crash)
When you put a dvd movie in the drive, it crashes (comp)
When you put a music cd, or game cd in it, it crashes the comp. When you put empty media in it, its fine (but when you have empty media in the computer when it is starting up it will crash)
- But
I have a cd rw drive and it works fine. Ive tried changing cables, ive changed the order around (making the dvd drive a master, and cd rw a slave) ive out the dvd drive in the computer by its self, and ive kept it out, to let the computer reset its self.
The blue screen would have the same error each time, and i tracked it down, and it had to do something with Nero or something, so i uninstalled nero, and that didnt work. Ive tried about everything there is but it still wont work. Ive had this drive for awhile now, and this has been going on for about 2 weeks now (ive had the drive for about half a year now).
So if anyone could help me, id really appreciate it. Because i really need this drive![]()
Thanks

Connect it to another PC. If it works there then it is OK, but if it starts to crash the other computer excgange it because you still should have valid Warranty!

if i do exchange it, should i go with the same drive, or something better. I always wanted to get a pioneer, but tok the hp because of price. What do you think

Ok, it works in other computers except mine. And now, instead of the computer when you put it in (but it still dose this) but it crashes when you double click on My Computer or if something reads the cd in the Drive. Also it somethimes restarts the computer everynow and then when you put a d in the drive.
Ive run Norton utilities and stuff to see if it was a messed up file, but of course it wasnt. My next option is to reinstall windows, but i really dont want to do that.
Could it be a firmware problem of some sort. Or is my drive history -
Cheack that your PSU has enought power for your system. If possible change the PSU just to rule out any problem asoaciated with it.
Also a clean windows reinstall never hurts -
is there a way have norton fix or replace files that aer messed up instead of having to do a reinstall
and where can i find a firmware update fo this drive??? -
Norton will cause only more damage (I think you are talking about norton windoctor?).
Check the HP support pages for firmware download, if needed ask by sending them an email. -

I had the same problem and narrowed it down to the HP DLA program. Went to Control Panel, ADD/Remove programs and removed HP DLA. Reboot and DVD drive works normal again.
Don't know if reinstalling DLA would work, but since I never use it I didn't bother... one less thing to worry about.
Hope this solves your problem.

HP DLA is a program that came with your HP200i dirve. It allows you to format a DVD disk to be used as a data disk. If you installed the HP software, it should be on your hard drive. Check the add/remove program list in the control panel and if it's there remove it.

hmmm,
i dont think installed the software that came with it, i think i just put the drive in and that was it, ive always used Nero to do data disks and stuf like that.
Do you think i should install the hp software? -
Last few times I've seen that on computers it's windows problems. However it is slightly poss. it is a hardware/software imcompatability. Did you add anything just before this styarted happening?
Bite the bullet, reformat and do a clean install.
a. Windows will run better, faster & more reliably.
b. or just delete the windows & program files folders, that will get rid of any non windows drivers that may or can cause problems.
first make sure you have all the programs you use ready to reinstall...files and product keys.
Have all the latest drivers for your hardware.
before any other internet use be sure to do product updates & use the latest up to date antivirus.
3rd if you don't need/or use it don't install it.
after windows is up and running make a backup of it.
It's a hassle, but I do it once a year just to keep things running at their peak.
Good Luck

do you think if i installed the cd that came with the drive it would fix anything? im trying to stay away from reinstalling, im not ready to do it and i ned to back up a lot of stuff that need and stuff.

It wasn't clear from your post if your HP drive ever did work in the past. If it did work in the past. Just pick a restore point (in Accesories, System Restore) at a date that you remembered where it use to work. You will have to re-install certain programs that were installed after that date but it's better than re-installing Windows.

Did you check to see if Hp DLA is listed in the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel as I realy think it's causing your problem? If it's not there, I won't bug you anymore.
