    my msi dvd burner suddenly will not play movie dvds,and will not recognise any dvd blank media,yet it will still happily play cds.
    bought a new burner ,and that has the same symptoms!
    sounds to me like a decoder/dvd software thing,so i uninstalled and reinstalled power dvd ,but no joy,any ideas ?

    Does it recognise commercial DVDs ?

    Maybe try uninstalling the IDE controller the drive is on (windows should reinstall it on reboot - XP will, anyway). Then I'd maybe look at something like ForceASPI. Before you do this, it'd probably be better to rule out some of the more obvious choices though.
